9 AM

Running - hard tempo 17:39 [4]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Kim went off to Cardiff with instructions to "make it hurt" at the parkrun. moderate success i think, possibly a bit too comfy for most of it (after briefly losing my shit in the first 200m :-D ) but at the finish the officials were laughing at me, which i think means i looked suitably uncomfortable. (edit) if the time from parkrun is right it's really disappointing, not actually any quicker than ive run before. i must be able to push harder than that surely?! running a bit in no mans land for most of it. would be nice to do a flat 5km race sometime.

Running - easy warm up/down 40:00 [2]

Tuesday Oct 25, 2016 #

8 AM

Running - easy 42:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

feeling much better to run today, just a bit short of fuel in the tank so somewhat reduced training today too.

S&C 30:00 [2]

easier stuff in the gym, added in some suggestions from friday
6 PM

Running - hard intervals 13:15 [4]

reduced session at the track. i think its better to go for the same kind of speed and not run many reps, when i'm recovering, rather than run more and slower. 3x1200 except i got a bonus 500m when i cut i2 to go to the toilet. otherwise 3.50 to start (oops), then 3.55s running wide. feeling fine, glad i kept it short to be safe.

Running - easy warm up/down 40:00 [2]

Monday Oct 24, 2016 #

10 AM

Running - easy 49:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

so now i can say i am a Survivor of the Great Jack Baxter Plague of 2016. which in a way is excellent, as i can stop worrying about getting it. feeling much better generally but terrible when running, had to force myself to keep going for most of the way. not sure how i managed what i did yesterday (even made it to Nonna's in the evening, what a trooper :-D ) but i should probably be more careful when ive not eaten much since breakfast yesterday.

Orienteering - medium race 53:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Inov-8 XTalon 212 Oct 2016

SHI Relay back in Newborough. Had been really looking forward to this but something is up with me today. Felt really sick and weak, couldnt really push anything! Thought id just snap out of it after starting but it didnt happen. So it wasnt that much fun and i couldnt do the job i needed to :-(

Running - easy warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Inov-8 XTalon 212 Oct 2016

Tried to warm up... At least it was a fun weekend in terms of seeing everyone again!

Orienteering - hard 1:19:00 [4]
shoes: Inov-8 XTalon 212 Oct 2016

SHI long at Newborough. Another interesting one for the analysis... Lucky my legs were working well to salvage something. Have my work cut out for upcoming technique block!! Great to catch up with everyone! :-)

shoes: Inov-8 XTalon 212 Oct 2016

Friday Oct 21, 2016 #

Note

In salford for some biomechanical testing. Results encouraging and reassuring!

Also travelling down to SHI at Newborough in the evening, after a brief bit of plague-dodging back in Sheffield. Long day.
6 AM

Running - easy 50:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

various to the station, in manchester and in the test. planned a bit more, and some gym, but in some pain today so kept it minimal.

Thursday Oct 20, 2016 #

Running - easy 47:00 [2]

quite sedate pace from school. nice colours on the trees now!
4 PM

Running - easy 37:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Easy run. Im definitely tapering for the weekend and definitely not just tired. Nice with some sun again.

Wednesday Oct 19, 2016 #

5 PM

Running - easy 1:45:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Legs mild-moderately wrecked from yesterday but wanted to go to DP training and at least run easy for a bit. Ran up to the Sportsman to avoid a net downhill, cut off home early but still longer than intended when the route was the other side of rivelin, long way back up to crosspool and over home. No climbing but did get involved in a halloween disco.

Tuesday Oct 18, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 42:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

easy forge dam variation. bit miserable in the rain but at least it feels like i have clear lungs.
6 PM

Running - hard intervals 17:20 [4]

Track again :-) 2(7x400m), equalish recoveries. Handy for me to be able to slipstream Paul F for the entire session! He did 15x, i took the set rest. Longest 400s session ive done, we were 'aiming for 80s', which meant they were all 75s or under. Happy not to suffer at the end after the 72-73s started at 10ish... Much better than expected after i had to force myself out the door raining, loads to do)!

Running - easy warm up/down 45:00 [2]

Suffered on the way home tho

Monday Oct 17, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 1:25:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

group Clough run. feeling a bit more tired than usual, left over from the illness i guess, and forgot that im somewhat prone to a chest infection, so a bit worried when i was coughing up some gunk, but it seems to be more from my nose. will see if i start wheezing at any point tho. also i cut my knee a bit yesterday and wondering about the chances of catching something nasty from Tankersley. apart from that, fine.

S&C 45:00 [3]

gym. a little bit limited with lifting, tired r shoulder from swinging Jack about on the way home last night.
2 PM

Running - easy 41:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Easy easy to school

Sunday Oct 16, 2016 #

Running - easy 30:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

do you believe in miracles? throat much better today and feeling more energetic. went for a morning jog to test it out
12 PM

Orienteering - hard race 43:00 [4]
shoes: Inov-8 XTalon 212 Oct 2016

felt good enough to be at least some use today for SYO. my first race in black and yellow! may have created a bit of interesting analysis in places... good enough to get the points (and prize beer, winning) but not exactly a masterclass. slipped over a lot in the mud. running maybe not quite as well as usual but that might not be such a bad idea in that area!

Running - easy warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Inov-8 XTalon 212 Oct 2016

Saturday Oct 15, 2016 #

Note
(sick)

That was why! Throat all white when i woke up. Actually not so bad otherwise but i wouldnt do a good job at running up hills and i think it would be a stupid idea to run with this virus. So now i have some hours to kill in Glasgow (while seeing if i can help myself be better for tomorrow instead!)

Friday Oct 14, 2016 #

Note

Felt a bit off, didnt feel like training

Thursday Oct 13, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 45:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

just another easy run, explored a bit of the route we did in the dark last wednesday night. rainy and chilly, autumnal.
5 PM

Running - easy 1:03:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

up onto the big spur thing then on the nice path along the top of rivelin. muddy after all the rain but i seemed to catch a nicer bit of weather. just killing time before a tough weekend.

Wednesday Oct 12, 2016 #

6 PM

Running - easy 47:00 [2]

missed the bus up to the sportsman by about 5s, crap. so i went home and straight out for an easy run by myself instead, before it got completely dark. felt tired from yesterday! went climbing again too but otherwise easy day.

Tuesday Oct 11, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 39:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Easy from school. Bit stressed with a lot to sort out!
6 PM

Running - hard intervals 18:50 [4]

Track! 2x 1200 + 1600, 1200s a good bit quicker than the 1600s. Felt fine, worked quite hard but not too crazy apart from the first lap, where it was clear ive lost all concept of pacing. Found that Paul F was running about the right speed on the longer ones, which was really useful!

Running - easy warm up/down 48:00 [2]

Not feeling so tired so ran home too

Monday Oct 10, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 1:28:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Clough run. quite a group today, 6 of us at one point. nice easy pace.

S&C 40:00 [3]

gym stuff. a bit more weight on some things.
2 PM

Running - easy 39:00 [2]

Sunday Oct 9, 2016 #

11 AM

Orienteering - medium intervals 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 March 2016

Long o-intervals with Kim. 2 on Burbage Mines and 2 in Ecclesall Woods. Trying to work on basic process and having a plan before i just run off. All went a bit wacky races in the last two, the veg has changed a bit since the map was made so it needed a bit of extra imagination. Otherwise kind of rusty anyway. Fun!

Running - easy warm up/down 33:00 [2]
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 March 2016

Needed to tape shoes together. Theyve not done so badly though.

Saturday Oct 8, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Entertaining Lucy and Tiffin with plenty of help from the kids

Friday Oct 7, 2016 #

10 AM

Running - easy 43:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

no school run today, so i lapsed back into lazy athlete timings. moving better than yesterday.

S&C 45:00 [3]

more core stuff today
3 PM

Running - hard tempo 25:00 [4]

back on the treadmill at the gym... 200s alternating either side of threshold, with a little bit longer on the faster speed at the end. might have underestimated myself again but changing the settings on the interval program would have meant stopping half way through, and i was interested to see the cumulative effect. got a bit harder nearer the end but i think i can progress it. sweaty.

Running - easy warm up/down 24:00 [2]

a bit short and sharp, mostly to the gym and back

Thursday Oct 6, 2016 #

3 PM

Running - easy 56:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Easy day. Needed this after all, legs feeling all that tarmac. Hungry too, practically inhaled a sausage roll and a frijj afterwards.

Wednesday Oct 5, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 39:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

easy recovery from school. hamstring doms after yesterday morning.
6 PM

Running - easy 1:50:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

went to dark peak training. quite easy pace tonight (i'm told it's not usually like that)...

Running - hard 15:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

...apart from the climb up from forge dam back towards the sportsman at the end, finishing in the inevitable longsprint. fun, really enjoyed it, but i also ran home afterwards and it was a lot of tarmac... will make sure i dont do that next time! felt a bit like a roadrunnning tisdagsbana, excellent.

Tuesday Oct 4, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 53:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

from school. not feeling so good today, a bit too little sleep

S&C 45:00 [3]

some quite poorly formed lifting too, luckily the weights arent heavy enough to result in damage :-D
6 PM

Running - hard intervals 16:00 [4]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

grass intervals with Hallamshire... kept it short and sweet, 2(4x2min) instead of straight 10x2 with no set rest, so i could run a bit faster. excellent to get a session done, felt fine and no calf issues this week. siesta this lunchtime helped i think.

Running - easy warm up/down 25:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Monday Oct 3, 2016 #

9 AM

Running - easy 1:10:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara - Sept 2016

Monday clough route with Kim and Paul, including a couple of minutes of downhill practice. deferred gym til tomorrow, think i can do a better job ofit then, but legs seem fine still so hopefully will be able to do some better intervals this week.
