Gym Mayfield - Solo Treadmill 4:39 [3] 1.0 km (4:39 / km)
shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

Arrived too early at gym so filled in time before class.
Wanted to see if I could use the half destroyed New Balance shoes at least on a treadmill.

After this spent 5 minutes jogging up and down the steps to get up on the Instructors stage.
6 AM

Gym Mayfield - Class Weights 55:00 [3]

Still struggling to get back into this after absence of couple of weeks.

20c shoes: Salomons June 2014

Nominal 3.4 km and 20 Controls.

Much better day than yesterday.
Came first in my group.

Found #3 before #2.
Found #12 before #11.

Will update log once splits available.

Note

Back home after long drive (as passenger both ways thankfully).

Sunday Jun 8, 2014 #

11 AM

Orienteering - Bush (SL #8 QBIII - Malang) 1:24:31 [3] 7.9 km (10:42 / km)
13c shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

Nominal 5.2 km and 13 controls.
Hard day and lots of getting lost.

#1 was about 20 metres to far north before realised an backtracked. My first experience with rock and I was overwhelmed already.

Made a total mess of #2 as misread contours down into valley as another hill. So stood on top of hill ... looking down at where #2 ultimately was ... wondering why there was not another hill there ??

#3 and #4 OK.

Had a decent plan for #4 to #5 but got lost on the way there. Eventually just ran south and finally found the fence I was looking for and corrected.

#5 OK once I got to the north-south creek.

Made a mess of #6 as was about 30 metres too low.

#7 was pure fluke.

#8, #9, #10 OK.

#11 Slight search.

#12, #12 OK.

Shoes self destructed after 622 km since November last year so forced to buy new ones prior to Mondays race.

According to splits came 42nd of 55 competitors.
Slowest out of everyone to find #2!!!!

Event: QBIII

2 PM

Orienteering - Bush (SL #7 QBIII - Brummagen) 16:29 [3] 2.5 km (6:36 / km)
12c shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

First event of QBIII.
Nominal 1.8 km and 12 controls.

Screwed up 2nd last control and was ahead of Shane prior to that. There were 2 other controls in the ditch and I visited all 3 on my way from the bottom to the top.
Problem was a simple basic one - I misread white as forest and orange as clearing back to front. Shane's answer to 11 was simple - run se until you run out of forest whilst I mucked around.

Edit
Looking at splits came 9th of 46 competitors.
Prior to screw-up at #11 was coming 4th overall!
3 PM

Note

Spent longer pulling hundreds of farmers friends out of pants and socks than it took to run the actual race!!!!
4 PM

Walk - Street 52:00 [1] 4.2 km (12:23 / km)
shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

From hotel to Coles and back to get milk and bread

Friday Jun 6, 2014 #

6 AM

Gym Mayfield - Class Cycle 33:15 [3] 11.2 km (2:58 / km)

Yet again bailed on 2nd half due to low motivation levels (plus installing $200 K of equipment at work this week).

Wednesday Jun 4, 2014 #
