Orienteering - Park (#01 Newcastle) 37:52 [3] 4.7 km (8:03 / km)
shoes: New Balance Nov 2013
Last 2 nights of less than 4 hrs sleep meant I was pretty stuffed.
Tried going home from work early prior to event to get 3 hrs but was not successful as just lay there.
So getting any result today was welcome.
No major screw-ups on any particular controls.
Jumping off the verandah over the fence to land on the ground at #1 wasn't a brilliant idea but no injuries.
Went the north track option from 9 to 10 rather than the back track east option that other people seemed to be taking. Was happy that until about Control 11 I wasn't really following, or being followed by anyone. From approx 16 to 22 Peter Charlton and I were neck and neck to each control despite some different route choices.
More happy to have clarified a few uncertainties about the final event
ie timing to be ready at 3 pm, course layout, sport ident vs punch cards for seniors and girl guides etc.
This was the main reason I attended today as I can't compete in the final anyway since I am the setter.
Still have to sort out actual control number availability.
Final Course still too basic, with limited route choices, for my liking but this has been governed by the huge amount of regrowth forcing runners to basically be forced to stay on tracks.
