Orienteering race 1:44:14 [3] *** 7.63 km (13:40 / km) +51m 13:13 / km

Orange Course with Katy Drinkhouse at Joyce Park in Hamilton, Ohio, set by David Waller. Just a really fun course. We typically use Joyce for sprinty events, and while there was some sprint character to the courses, the much longer legs seemed novel for some reason. Probably the biggest surprise was how fun it was to run and walk through the 4 or 5 inches of fresh powder in the blowing, drifting snow and wind. Some exposed areas were just brutally cold, and other sheltered areas were just cozy. One mistake on 10, I think. We followed elephant tracks that had the same curve as the trail from the parking lot, and ended up near the driving range fence and things weren't lining up. Looking south, we saw the actual trail, more like a vehicle track. Once we got on the right trail, everything lined up. (Actually, I'm pretty sure the mistake was mine. Katy actually wanted to take the correct trail, but I didn't think it was right.)

Just a really fun event all around.

Afterwards---A birthday party for Katy and me at Ryan's. Mine is tomorrow, and Katy's is Monday. I hope my arrival at 6pm didn't mess up any schedules or plans. I didn't think I would be nearly a full hour driving to Ikea and back---and it wasn't because of problems at Ikea---I was in-and-out faster than I've ever done it, I think.
