My HRM must be dead! I really wanted to see the HR on one section of this---I was riding my bike on the main drag in Dayton, Kentucky and then Bellevue. Google says it's "Bike Friendly". It ain't. It wasn't terrible, but I needed just a little bit more to keep up, so cars always wanted to pass me. I was doing not-quite-sprint intervals for about 5 minutes and my legs were toast.

I was trying to create a track or route, upload it to the GPS (Sara Dallman's Oregon 450 or something), and see how well it worked to help you navigate along the path. I created a track from one of Gerald's old bridges runs, but it just looked like a bunch of the pin balloons in google maps, and no obvious way to follow them. Another route I made in google maps. I used "directions" and turned on the bicycling info and just made something about 10 miles long. This worked okay, but only if you were on the line. Even 50 feet off, and it went wonky.

The ride. It was pretty cool, but not for a workout. I started at Sawyer's Point. Went by Yeatman's Cove (serpentine wall) to the public landing, then started the route. It started and finished close to the same spot, and that was a mistake. You really want it to be a one-way thing---like "out" and "back" as separate routes, or reversible ones---I don't see the reverse switches in this new GPS---my old one had them---maybe I'm missing it.

Oh---the ride. Purple People bridge to Newport on the Levee (another spot that is bikeable, but only at low speed, and it still has too many pedestrians---I had zero close calls, but about ten that were almost a close call.) Then I went upriver towards Dayton, KY, then on top of Dayton's levee to the far side, then back on the "main drag" nearly to 471, then uphill on some more bikeable but not "bike friendly" streets, by the Party Source to the river side of the levee (Riverboat Row), past a gazillion people parking for the Red's game, then hammered in a nearly empty road slash parking lot, back into the people (not bad), almost to the Licking River Bridge, then back to Newport on the Levee and across the Taylor–Southgate Bridge, stopping for game traffic on the sidewalk, then onto the street down Pete Rose Way to the public landing. Then I just rode around the park on the Ohio Side all the way out past the Montgomery Inn Boathouse. There was an event that closed off the last few hundred meters, but I've got to go back to see this tall shiny stainless steel sculpture weather vane thing in the sun. Back towards my car, but explored Sawyer's Point until it was getting dark.

I rode along a "contour" on the serpentine wall. I don't recommend this unless you're a really stable rider. There are 4 or 5 places with stairs, and you've got to hit a treadwidth with your uphill pedal high, which makes it hard to balance (because pedalling lets you power out of a wobble). And if you screw up and fall downhill---you're probably gonna break a bone. This thing is steep! (Click the blue globe, switch to satellite, then zoom into the squiggles on the Ohio side, then keep zooming til it switches to 45deg view. It's one of the best views of the serpentine wall I've ever seen.

Who knew that just dinking around on a bike was so fun?
