Note

The leg is much better. It's still puffy and a little red, but the temperature is lower, and I can stand up without it swelling. The antibiotics are working. I'm so glad. This one had me a little rattled.

Note

My leg is a lot better, but it might be because I kept it elevated most of the day. I went to the hospital vascular lab to have the veins in my legs ultrasonically checked for clots, and I'm pretty sure that turned out okay (they won't tell you, but they will drop hints). I think it's primarily cellulitis, which is a bacterial infection under the skin. When I googled it, one of the headings was "Necrotizing Skin Disorders", which freaked me out. The swelling is way down, but the redness might be bigger. If it's bigger tomorrow, I'll go back to the doctor and see about a different antibiotic. I do think this one is working, though---it's a lot less painful.
If I had to guess, I think I got this during the Upside Down Rogaine about 10 days ago. I had a ton of scratches on my legs, and I just showered when I got home. I probably should have used Betadine. The scratches had a little line of red, which is something I don't usually see.

Note

Well, I have lower extremity edema, and possibly cellulitis. I have to take antibiotics for 10 days, and have an ultrasound of veins in my leg. I have to eat less salt and drink lots of water. And I have to elevate my leg as much as I can.

And my leg is looking worse and hurting more than just a few hours ago.

Running 35:00 [1] 3.38 km (10:21 / km) +55m 9:35 / km
shoes: Brooks

One hill loop with Katie. I had just eaten, and I had to stop several times. We did three 30 sec or so intervals up the hill, but Katie overdid and and got dizzy, so we walked back. (Hence the level 1.)

My leg is bothering me. It's almost like I reinjured by shin hematoma from Halloween 2004. I did trip on a fence Saturday (and planted medium hard), but it was bugging me last Thursday. Part of the skin is hot, and it's a little puffy like it might be bleeding underneath (very slowly). This might call for a doctor's visit.

Cincinnati 2-Day ARDF. Sunday 80m at Sharon Woods.

ARDF Setting 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Nike GoreTex

I set an 80m course at Sharon Woods. We had the normal four competitors, plus hkleaf, who got second on his first 80m course. Cool. I just found out we had another interested competitor who would have come if he had known about it, so we've got to do better publicizing our events.

The rain held off until we were done. It was just medium hot and humid, and then it rained and was just nasty, brutally humid.

Sharon Woods is just a really nice place to orienteer. It's got hills, but it also has some nice flat areas. It's really difficult to set a Brown course, but I'm thinking we should just plan a bunch of longish courses there. That would make the courses a whole lot easier to design, and probably a lot more interesting. I'll have to play around with that idea in Condes.

Cincinnati 2-Day ARDF. Sat 2m at McFarlan Woods.

ARDF 2m race 2:03:00 [4] 6.9 km (17:50 / km) +200m 15:34 / km
shoes: Adidas $42 Cleats

2m event at McFarlan Woods set by Brian D. I was 3rd of 3 competitors, and I was beat. Distance is over the ground. I bonked on the last 75m of climb (last 50 minutes). I'll write more later---It's my turn to set in the morning, and I've got stuff to do.
