One hill route plus a loop around the rec center. It felt like an easy, long slow run tonight. That's very unusual for me---Usually it's only easy when I walk. Let's hope the 6 hours of hard walking did me some good. I also did some ad hoc intervals up the big hill. I tried to maintain my flat pace uphill. When my heart would race, I'd walk for a bit. Felt good.
Just before I stepped out the door, my ankle started to hurt. I don't remember twisting or banging it on anything, but there is a little bruising on the inside of my left ankle. Let's hope it's just a tight sock. It didn't seem to affect my running, so let's hope it'll be okay. (fingers crossed).

The Rogaine Results. We did better than we expected.

By this morning, the soreness had diminished to a flu-like, all-over ache. I need to get out and run.

I was so sore today. I was awakened by a call at twenty minutes past noon, and I had to roust myself out of bed. I was chafed to within an inch of my life (one of the worst ever for me). After about 5 hours, I finally got cognizant and interested enough to check why my feet were hurting so badly. It felt like blisters all over, but it was just 2 smallish ones.
I figured if I was that bad, Dick must be similar, so around 9pm I called him. He said he was okay, and I said, "I can barely walk", and he said he was the same way.
It seems wrong to call this a rest day, because everything I did today was painful and difficult.

I did a little more thinking about the course and map from yesterday. It's so difficult to get used to AR control locations. One description was "hillside". We attacked it from below (If it's possible to attack with no real attackpoint), and found a bunch of people looking for it. Hearing their troubles, I suggested (almost so everyone could hear): "We attacked it from below and didn't find it. Let's relocate on the road above and attack it. If we don't find it, we leave." I relocated using the dodgy technique of determining the tangent point of the road above the control, which I figure is the only reasonable way to place that control, and didn't find it. (The most correct description would be "Flag in Woods", seriously). Unfortunately, that control was mistakenly not placed, so some teams wasted a lot of time there. We spent about 8 minutes and about 35m of climb, so we got away easy.

Night O' race (Night Rogaine 6hr) 5:55:00 [2] **

Finished 5 minutes undertime at the rogaine, in a team with Dick Arnett. I'll have more time to study the map later, but I don't see how anyone with our fitness level could have gotten more points than us. The uber-runners almost cleaned the course (missed by 1), so I'm not saying we did well, I'm just saying we did as well as we could have hoped. It's really hard getting use to those maps. 1:24000, 20ft/6m contours, no mapping of runnability, and no corrections to the base. There were errors of fire roads being on the wrong side of streams that caused me minutes of anxiety. Relief is just under 100m. Whew. I drank a little over a gallon, maybe 5 or 5.5 L. Never had to go from 1 hour before to 3 hours after---that's 10 hours. This was my second adventure race, and my second night AR.
Long story short: We had a blast. We'd do it again. I'm so sore I can barely walk. I'm up at 5:37am so I can log it on attackpoint.
