Note

I finally processed my BillyPig GPS track. I didn't include all of it, just portions:

BillyPig1

BillyPig2

1: Out of 10, I exited right, when I should've gone left. Probably 20 seconds or so error.

2. At 13, I don't really know how I screwed it up. I was seeing everything I expected to see. I think the track is accurate here (although I didn't cross the stream toward 14A). I need some work in intricate terrain. At 14B, the track is wrong, I think. 14B was a true spike, just right to it, no hesitation. I don't remember any jink like it shows.

3. I skipped 7, but probably should have skipped 15. I didn't see the left route to 16 from 14B, which would've saved a lot of distance. One thing I learned is that you have to look at skips differently as the race goes on. If you've moving slowly at the end, a late skip of the same distance as an early skip is worth more time. (Thanks to Eric B. for saying something that made me think about that.)

Course set-check-pick 45:00 [1] ***

About 2 hours putting out the last markers for the Sharon Woods Sprints. It had been high-40s, low-50s all week, and just in time for my event, a low passed through, bringing freezing weather and about 5-8cm of snow. Luckily, the air temperature was just above freezing, so roads stayed clear rather than froze. The results and maps are here.

It took some really die-hard orienteers to come to this one. One course was noticeable worse because you'd get your upper body wet while running through the vegetation, and it chilled your body faster.

Oh well. At least setting it was a blast.
