Running 36:17 [3] 4.36 km (8:19 / km)
shoes: Brooks

Ran around Sharon Woods Lake. A few times I felt like I desperately needed to stop, but I just relaxed through it and ended up walking only a few times. My left hamstring is still sore a lot. It was a really nice day. I had "uncle duties" and had to delay running until almost dark, but it was still warm enough for shorts and a long-sleeve T. I don't think I recall a January this warm. (knock on wood)

Orienteering race 1:33:30 [4] *** 7.81 km (11:58 / km) +30m 11:45 / km
shoes: Adidas $42 Cleats

Green Course at Possum Creek Metropark in Dayton (Clue sheet says 5.3km, 30m climb, which is 17:36/km, but that's ficticious---It's suicidal to go not stay on the trails or roads as much as possible. Basically a long, fighty yellow course). Not the best course---not a lot of route choice, and longish road runs were in play for several legs. Very green. My shins are banged up, and I caught a briar across my neck. The coolest part of the day was the last few points, which passed near active beaver areas. There was lots of the characteristic gnawing, and several small beaver dammed areas. I went 50m out of my way coming out of 7 to avoid getting really wet, and then had to cross a freakin' lake on the way to 8. It was mid-thigh deep, and there was ice floating on the surface. It wasn't too bad, really. Bob Frey caught me at control 2, and we were together most of the way to 8. We split going to 9, and ended up about 1 minute ahead of him (So 3 minutes better from 8 to 9 and 9 to 10(the finish)).

Note

A very weird day today. I was almost home from the Dayton event, when my cousin called. He'd had a bike wreck sprinting in a pack, broke his helmet, nearly broke a collarbone, and got major road rash on his face. He was riding with two physicians, and had been checked out pretty well, but he didn't want to drive, so I got a ride there and drove him home. At his house, we got a call that my aunt had been helicoptered from one hospital to a heart-specialty hospital, and was having two stents placed in her heart. I figured out where she was, and went over to the waiting room. Whew! Long day.
