Note

I had a followup about an MRI I had Monday.

1. The bone is contused. (meaning deeply bruised or slightly fractured).
2. The rotator cuff is probably damaged.
3. The labrum is uncertain.

Recommendation is to try Naproxen twice-a-day plus some physical therapy, and see what happens. Possibly a scope operation in several or many months.

It feels a lot better, but certain motions hurt, and when I do big motions I get lots of tendon or ligaments snapping in there.

I took a serious painkiller last night, and slept really well---first time in a long time. It seems that I have trained myself to not roll over onto the busted shoulder---mostly.

Checking points for the A-Meet (vetting). Rainy, and the temperature dropped the entire time I was out. Beautiful day to be out, though.

My shoulder was killing me earlier. I didn't tweak it in the woods very much, but a little. If I grab my bad arm with my other hand, I can lift up my arm and stretch out a painful muscle. (What I'm saying is that I can't lift it there unless I help it out with my other arm.)

An embarrassing injury to report:

I packed my orienteering clothes last Saturday for Miami Univ Natural Areas, but walked out the door without them. Running the computer, though, I needed to go out into the woods briefly. Well, I stepped over a 6 inch high fallen tree trunk and tripped on it. I fell forward, and grabbed a 3-inch diameter tree with my right hand. I hit the ground and ended up with my shoulders up and my hips up, with my spine bent backwards. My vertebrae cracked like a chiropactor did it, but I ended up with my right ear against the tree, bruised and bleeding a tiny bit; with bark under my fingernails; and with a really sore right shoulder.

My back felt great literally two minutes later, and it has continued to feel great. My shoulder is another matter. It was a rough night sleeping, and I babied it all day Sunday. It has improved a little, but I've got so much popping that I'm pretty sure I did some damage that isn't going to fix itself. I'm gonna let the swelling and muscle pain diminish for a few more days, then I'm gonna go get checked out. I'd give myself a 25% chance that it will fix itself. Hoping. My last bad shoulder injury took 21 months to resolve.

Note

Another note of interest: We had a wrist injury at MUNA. I didn't have my SAM splint in the car. Probably a good idea to keep some splinting materials in the car, especially for fingers and wrists. My first aid kit has plenty of tape and a triangular bandage, but not much for splinting.

I just looked at my injury log. Something I noticed there, that I can back up with several other instances with other people, is to splint before you drive away. If it is broken, the splint will make the trip a whole lot less painful. I drove myself unsplinted and I've driven someone unsplinted, and both were horrible. When the doctor splinted my broken wrist, my blood pressure dropped at least 40 points---and that was sitting in a chair with my wrist on the examination table.
