Orienteering race 1:03:17 [3] *** 4.9 km (12:55 / km) +100m 11:43 / km
shoes: Brooks

Orienteering at Sharon Woods, set by Claire Dell. A really fun Green course, with some open area route choice legs and some deep reentrant scrambling.

I caught up to Dick and Addison about 3 points from the end, and held just a little bit of a lead all the way to the finish. I finished much harder than I would have other wise.

Running 24:00 [3] 3.0 km (8:00 / km) +50m 7:23 / km

Short run with Katie. I'm trying to get back to logging regularly. My only workout for over the last month has just been a weekly session of orienteering, and I missed one of those a few weeks ago (even though I was there running sportident for like 5 hours).

I'm designing the Flying Pig relay courses. I've got an event center, but not the final routings in-and-out of it.

My aunt fell off a chair while cleaning a closet and broke her hip. (The upper part of her femur.) I spent a little over an hour in the hospital tonight looking for her or anyone I knew. She was in surgery, and everyone had left when visiting hours were over. I finally got to see her in the recovery room as she was waiting for the spinal to wear off. She seemed alert and ready to go, although I guess it can be a long recovery. She said the pain was terrible, especially when they had to get her onto the cot for the ambulance. It's been a long time since I saw her last, and it was really good to see her again and catch up.

Orienteering race 55:54 [4] *** 5.2 km (10:45 / km) +20m 10:33 / km
shoes: Nike Trail (Blue)

Brown course at Joyce Park, Hamilton, Ohio, set by Pat Meehan. A very flat, and open park, but also a very nice use of it for interesting courses. It started out into a wooded, complex floodplain before it got to the fields separated by linear forests. Certainly they weren't as fun as all woods courses, but I thought Pat did a great job throwing in some nice route choice legs.

The low point of the whole event was my fault. After checking repeatedly (like 3 times), I typed 20 Feb instead of 21 Feb into the SportIdent programming software. So none of the boxes in the woods came on on Saturday, because they had already been on for 6 hours on Friday. Luckily, I always use the BSM(?) 7 units for start and finish, so they would work anyway. Unfortunately, the start won't work unless the dibbers are cleared, and the clear was an old unit. I reprogrammed clear and check, and deleted the course information (control codes) from OE. It worked just fine that way. I sent the splits .csv file to Pat (that's right, with 1 split), and he used it in Route Gadget. I was really embarrassed that I misprogrammed everything, and I guess I'm not really sure what happened. I don't remember if I typed 20 Feb. I know I counted three times to get the days number. I either mistyped twice or did the same incorrect count three times. Either way, it's embarrassing.
