Treating this as a very long training run so opted to run a bit harder than training pace, knowing it was unmaintainable, but figuring I could best practice running while fatigued once the party ended..
What I didn't factor in was that pace was a bit too fast to allow proper gastric emptying and by 25 miles I was sloshing and not absorbing anything. Stepped it down to a brisk walk for an hour or so, stomach emptied and felt much better, but the damage was done. Any protracted bouts of running were a bad idea. Hooked up with fellow Strider Andy Zyrek around 30 and we pretty much walked the last 20 together, occasionally jogging for short interludes, but mostly walking at 3.6-4 mph. Through the marathon in just under 5 hours, quite content to walk the next 24 miles in under 6. Good to know I can still crank out a pretty decent walking pace on dead legs. It's all time on feet.
Watch wasn't recharging on the run properly, so I dropped it into the bag at 28 miles...
