Orienteering (9 Hale Res Red) 1:12:15 [3] 5.25 mi (13:46 / mi) +172m 12:29 / mi
spiked:15/15c weight:79.8kg shoes: 340 ORoc 2011

Back in Boston this AM, but too late to make Danehy, so went back to Hale & ran red course. Had been to all the control sites so no hesitations about where I was. Took different routes today on crappy legs from yesterday. Clean all around, but still not fast. No errors of any sort so this is a good evaluation of my current terrain fitness..

Split comparison on shared legs:
2-3 630 552 +38
3-4 516 340 +1:36
4-5 552 520 +32
5-6 845 756 +49
6-7 610 458 +72
7-8 312 259 +13
8-9 623 747 -1:25 (went wide on trail rather than direct through green)
16-17 648 453 +1:55 (went up the hill and attacked from above, and avoided getting mired in green down low)
17-18 344 313 +31
18-19 319 235 +44
19-20 334 320 +14
20-21 443 410 +33
21-F 149 155 (off since I started/finished from the car rather than the pavilion.)

Orienteering race (8 Hale Res Blue) 1:51:16 [4] 8.8 km (12:39 / km)
spiked:12/21c weight:79.9kg shoes: 340 ORoc 2010

Across field intending to go right around marsh, except mapped wall more like a hedgerow so I don't think I went to real corner of field before crossing road and getting distracted by vehicle traffic. Wound up by building but trails didn't seem to match, saw marsh in front of me but so close to map edge I was concerned that marsh I was looking at might be off edge of map. Probably left 90s head scratching & uncertainty before becoming confident at S end of marsh, clean and easy from there but a shaky start.

2 was fine, 3 I stayed a bit high and overshot and had to backtrack 30s. N around marsh, then perhaps 30s assessing map on S edge of circle before climbing up to control.

5 clean but slow going. Headed S to clear marsh, then straight at 6. Decent woods.. 7 & 8 clean as well, 9 ok but got into some crappy veg just before circle.

Went W of marsh and stayed on trail until past line of cliffs before turning up to 10. Right by pit but then didn't see rock where expected. Seemed lower on hill than mapped. -30s. Hit line of 3 boulders and had to backtrack to 11 - 15s.

Trails most of way to 12 then got into greenbrier in the last 25%... slow... Clean to 13, mired in veg getting to 14.

15 & 16 fine, but slowing down due to fatigue, got stuck in low vis green before 17 -45s. Rest were clean but slow.

So perhaps 4 minutes due to errors, quite a bit more due to slow veg in places, but not always clear from map where the crappy stuff was going to be.
