rhr down (good), weight not so much. Time to get serious about diet & regular exercise again.

Run - Road (Hare & back) 20:40 [3] 4.8 km (4:18 / km)
weight:76.8kg shoes: XA Pro GTX

Forced myself out the door in the dark. Ran without lights, stumbled in a couple holes in the dirt road, but no tragedies. Felt hard, but then it should on my recent volume of training these past few months.

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 10:00 [1] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Easy jog around Crandalls putting out course markings for the fun run portion of the Strider Holiday Fest. Chocolate medals for the finishers (no DNF's) and plenty of food and good times ensued.

Run - Trail long (Shenipsit End-2-End) 3:37:00 [3] 28.2 km (7:42 / km) +750m 6:48 / km
weight:75.6kg shoes: 285 RocLite B

3rd Annual Shenipsit Strider End-2-End Run. Not being in any kind of running shape, I opted to start with the group (8 to start) in East Hampton headed North, go as far as the 'tubes' at Route 2 crossing, then retrace back to the start. 6 others continued North to Bolton Notch. Joined Dave A for the ~18 mile out/back. Was only planning on 13 miles or so and packed fluids for 10 figuring I could run dry the last couple miles. Bad idea - started leaking oil badly around mile 15, but toughed it out. Had GU etc, but nothing to wash it down with.

Dave drove me back to Bolton Notch to get my car, so I stuck around until the crew came in about a half hour later where Scott was taking the handoff from Deb and continuing on with Dave M who should be the only one to do the full 46 miles this year. Randall D was going to meet them at Valley Falls and Tony B either at VF or at Walker Res. So 4 runners should finish the run sometime this evening. Absolutely gorgeous day for running....

So the body is really feeling it now, but I'm very glad I got out and did it and wasn't foolish enough to try and push for more than the 18 we did.

Run - Road race 30:26 [5] 7.64 km (3:59 / km)
shoes: 285 RocLite B

Gorgeous day for Manchester, my first time in the U30 corral, lining up about 8 feet off the starting line (last year Jackson & I didn't get to the start line for 11 minutes). Calves still real tight from Busa, so I could tell in the first mile that it wasn't going to be a banner day, but I was going to push for a sub-30 anyway. Hit the first mile in 6:00 even. Up the hill I maintained position in the field ok, but never saw the 2nd mile split. Got to 3 miles at 19:06 and calculated that I could go sub-30 if I really pushed, tried to pick it up a bit but within a half mile I had to dial it back a bit as the legs were killing me. Settled for 30:30. Good times though, lots of Striders in attendance and the first year the entire Morse clan ran (or walked).

Run - Trail race (Busa Bushwhack) 1:20:38 [4] 16.09 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: 340 ORoc 2010

Gorgeous day, but not really feeling it. Leg muscles quite achy - alarmingly similar to the lyme muscle aches I've had the past few years - but I haven't been running much lately, so I'll assume its just being out of shape and try to get back into shape and if I'm still feeling achy in a couple weeks we'll go back and get the bloodwork done again...

Not much sleep - up a couple of times to tend to a computer distro upgrade on the home machine - slow internet means 4-5 hours downloading before I can answer a few questions and let the install happen. I guess I deserve it for letting my upgrades get behind and now trying to do 3 successive upgrades in a row. But it sure beats a fresh install...

Run - Trail (Shenipsit) 45:00 [2] 6.3 km (7:09 / km) +200m 6:10 / km
weight:74.8kg shoes: old 285 Roclite A

Recon run on the Shenipsit Trail in Marlborough at the Route 2 Crossing. The 'tubes' are clear and passable - about 3-6" very cold running water. Trail had quite a bit of blow down, much of it passable, but it tended to obscure the footpath enough that you had to slow way down to discern which way the trail went. Also spent some time dragging moderate sized stuff to the side.

An enjoyable jaunt, mission accomplished - but quite a bit of time for a mere 6km covered...

Elevenses run tonight - 11 miles on the rail trail at 11:11pm, today, 11/11/11. Meeting at the Sacred Heart Church on Rt30 in Vernon, heading up Rockville Spur and up to just beyond Bolton Notch and back in case anyone local wants to join the fun. Sounds like a whole bunch of folks coming out. Nearly full moon out too....
11 PM

Run - Trail (Elevenses) 1:37:00 [3] 11.11 mi (8:44 / mi)
weight:75.1kg shoes: 285 RocLite B

Nice night for a run - 11.11 miler starting at 11:11pm on 11/11/11. A theme going here... Clear, nearly full moon, 35F at the house before I left.

Nice crew of 13 out for the jaunt up to Bolton Notch and back - trail pretty well cleared except for a couple huge trees which ought to be dealt with tomorrow...

Note

Oh boy, two weeks to Manchester. I should make a point to go out and run some between now and then. 14-day crash training??

Orienteering race (John Read A) 28:15 [4] *** 2.8 km (10:05 / km) +90m 8:42 / km
11c shoes: old 285 Roclite A

Cool to start - left the long sleeve on - bad idea - overheated from the start and just not running fast. Plus routes took me through a lot of rocky stuff which slowed things down.

Orienteering race (John Read 2) 13:38 [4] *** 1.9 km (7:11 / km) +55m 6:16 / km
8c shoes: old 285 Roclite A

Much better - cleaner running woods, good flow, but still didn't feel 'fast' until the last couple. Maybe just needed a decent warmup after not running or exercising for a week? Haven't eaten much lately either (Day 8 of no power) so could just be low on gas...

Orienteering race (John Read 3) 20:41 [4] *** 2.4 km (8:37 / km) +70m 7:31 / km
10c shoes: old 285 Roclite A

Another decent run - couple bobbles, plus got hung up on the old bridge crossing stream near the end - should have just gone down, through the stream and up the other side.

Hiking (Walk) 25:00 [1] 1.8 km (13:53 / km)

Anna at work with me today (shower, internet etc). Walked over to the Soup Lady's (vendor from the Coventry Farmers Market - good soups) cart for lunch. Nice day out...
