Other (Saptree Run) 1:00:00 [1]

7:00am - field checking at Wolf Den in the Saptree Run section of the park. Showery rain and skeeters caused me to abandon todays work after only an hour. May try some more Friday midday..

Wednesday Jun 28, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Skyline) 1:13:15 [3] 13.0 km (5:38 / km)

5:30 pm - sunny, 80, lower humidity - ran w/ Kevin, Rich & Bruce. Not feeling too energetic, crappy week at work - walked up hills, ran at less than normal pace downhills. Still, not a bad overall time. [Brahmas]

Saturday Jun 24, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Gerry's Folly) 28:57 [3] 6.4 km (4:31 / km)

7:00am - sunny, pleasant. Ran a pace run w/ map out and back on main dirt road up the middle of basemap - slightly negative splits (~25 seconds faster on return). Felt very fresh. I know this distance measurement was good (OCAD) so I think I need to get a wheel and measure the Crandalls route that I pace run on 2-3x per week as I have only been able to break 5min/km once and I am sure I routinely run that course faster than I ran this route this AM...[Brahmas - new]

Run - Trail (Soapstone) 1:09:35 [3] 11.0 km (6:20 / km)

8:00 - still sunny & pleasant (duh..) Planned on about an 8 miler with Jim Henderson, but short-cut it a little early. Nice pace, not too fast, felt very good at the end. [Brahmas]

Thursday Jun 22, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 18:46 [3] 3.68 km (5:06 / km)

5:50am - cloudy, muggy - Plan on running some O & an 8 mile trail run at Brainard later today, so I took this AM's run easy. Coasted along nicely on downhills, but very conservative on flats and uphills. Mold spores must be up as I have been battling asthma for a few days now. Not sleeping well because of it. [Estes]

Orienteering (Brainard) 1:19:54 [3] 8.2 km (9:45 / km)

4:15pm - sunny, mid 80's, humid - Set a course on a copy of the new map. The new map is nice, makes the terrain seem open and runnable. Problem is, its still the same rocky junk underfoot, lots of logging slash around and a storm a few weeks ago took out a lot of trees, visibility lousy, lots of detours. Made some errors, but basically just not nice running. May have to find some other event to run in October instead, perhaps Powissett. [Jukola Spiders]

Run - Trail (Brainard) 33:56 [4] 6.3 km (5:23 / km)

6:00pm - hooked up with Hartford Track Club to try their Thursday night trail run. However, on a hot day, I should not try to do three workouts. The lead group took off early, I hung back with the middle group who were talking about doing some real trails - Rich Fargo in this group, but really lost steam about 3 miles out, their pace was just too fast. Besides, most of it early on was on packed and/or paved jeep roads, not real trails. Left foot a bit sore and a blister forming on right big toe. Bailed out early. [Estes]

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 16:54 [4] 3.68 km (4:36 / km)

6:20am - sunny, 50ish, trails drying a little (finally). - Started out easy, began to pick up the pace around 2 minutes in, pushed the hill around 4 minutes and then tried to maintain a max pace for the duration, wound up tapering the pace off a bit by the Lodge, but all-in-all a good run. 5 seconds off my PR. Could probably set a new PR if I actually warmed up prior to running rather than using the first 3-5 minutes as a warmup. [Estes]

Monday Jun 19, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 17:03 [3] 3.68 km (4:38 / km)

6:00am - cloudy, cool, trails muddy. Have not run in 3 days, so felt very fresh but did not push 100% either. [Jukola Spiders]

Sunday Jun 18, 2000 #

Other (Wolf Den) 1:45:00 [1]

7:00am - sunny, cooler - a little more field work in the woods NW of HQ area.

Saturday Jun 17, 2000 #

Other (Wolf Den) 1:45:00 [1]

7:30am, sunny, warm, humid. Did some field checking of the area NW of HQ before going in to work this AM.

Thursday Jun 15, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Nipmuck) 2:06:09 [3] 22.0 km (5:44 / km)

12:00 noon - cloudy, cool, misty - ran from Greenhouse over Horsebarn Hill and down back hill to Nipmuck Trail. Ran North to Rt 44, joining Nipmuck Marathon course. Ran North to 2nd stile crossing, then turned around to return. [Estes]

Wednesday Jun 14, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Skyline) 1:14:48 [3] 13.0 km (5:45 / km)

5:30pm - cloudy, 60's, muddy but less standing water than last week. Ran w/ Kevin & Ed. Kevin dropped back on the climb to Hill 880, Ed ran the hill at a slow pace, I powerwalked at the same pace. I opted to enjoy the downhill on the backside so left Ed after Pine Mtn summit. Pushed the pace all the way back (~25min) with a couple of trail junction indescisive moments and one missed turn/bushwack opportunity. 1:10 should be doable with drier downhill footing, should be able to gain 2-3 minutes on the Minnechoag descent. [Estes]

Tuesday Jun 13, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 18:38 [3] 3.68 km (5:04 / km)

5:50am - overcast, 60ish - not feeling terribly into a quality run today, chest a bit tight, some asthma over 2nd half. Just kind of went through the motions. [Estes]

Sunday Jun 11, 2000 #

Other (Wolf Den) 3:15:00 [1]

6:30am - mapping at Wolf Den - worked in the HQ, WD Campround, Nature Trail, Wolf Den Swamp areas. Getting pretty warm & humid by 9:45 so called it a day.....

Saturday Jun 10, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Soapstone Sampler) 30:32 [4] 6.11 km (5:00 / km)

8:00am, sunny, warm, humid. Went out w/ Bruce. Dirt road section we pushed each other pretty good and feeling good, I gradually distanced him beyond the pond figuring I felt good enough to try to break the 30 minute barrier. Felt good through the sandpit, powerwalked two short sections up woodchuck hill, nothing left in the legs to scream down the backside which might have made the difference. About 10 seconds off my course PR. [Jukola Spiders]

Run - Trail (Gerry's Folly) 57:20 [3] 8.0 km (7:10 / km)

6:30am - sunny, pleasant. Went for a trail run w/ map on the yet to be field checked Shenipsit basemap. Tried a number of trails I had never been on, some went through some very nice terrain. [Jukola Spiders]

Thursday Jun 8, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 16:49 [5] 3.68 km (4:34 / km)

6:15am - 47F, Sunny, muddy trail - a little stiff from last nights run, but decided to push it hard from the start. Definitely a course PR - now to shoot for 16:30. Should probably borrow Jerry's wheel and actually measure course exactly as current estimate is average of 3 pace countings. Bottom of left foot a little tight (sore) but loosened up pretty quickly. [Estes]

Wednesday Jun 7, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Skyline) 1:25:25 [3] 13.75 km (6:13 / km)

5:30pm - sunny, 70's, very wet & muddy. Ran w/ Kevin Simons, Bruce Marvonek, Ed Alibozek and John Scalise. Bruce & I wound up breaking away on Minnechoag. He ran up Hill 880 & Pine Mtn, I powerwalked but only lost 25-30 meters over his running pace. Did a couple of double backs to let the chase group catch up and I added an extra 500m or so missing the yellow trail turnoff. [Estes]

Tuesday Jun 6, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 17:22 [3] 3.68 km (4:43 / km)

6:30am - cloudy, 50ish, rain threatening. As usual, legs were reluctant for a mile or so, then felt strong on 2nd half. May go out and do a longer run on the Nipmuck at lunch if rain holds off... [Estes]

Sunday Jun 4, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Shenipsit Trail) 20:13 [3] 3.5 km (5:47 / km)

Ran new section of Shenipsit Trail cut last weekend. Ran from house to new trail, north to 140, then turned around and ran entire new section (about a mile) to powerline at Grahaber Rd. powerline back to house. [Estes]

Saturday Jun 3, 2000 #

Orienteering (TRY-O Control Pickup) 23:01 [4] 2.6 km (8:51 / km)

Picking up flags on TRY-O course. 2nd half slower due to carrying 2 case empty water jugs out of woods with flags. [Jukola Spiders]

Orienteering (Gay City) 25:46 [2] 3.0 km (8:35 / km)

Picked up 3 controls from score-o including one water stop. Mostly an out & back trail run on the Blue Trail connector. [Jukola Spiders]

Friday Jun 2, 2000 #

Orienteering (Gay City Course Setting) 3:15:00 [1] 13.5 km (14:27 / km)

6:20am - sunny, humid - set out 33 controls for Saturdays beginner clinic (am) & score-o (pm). Toting a box of flags around the woods, so did not bother running at all. [EQT Trident]
