Note

A week of nothing... At least I'll have some shoveling to do in the AM so I can get out of the driveway and down to Hartford for Day 4 of the flower show. Tired of flower show, tired of winter, just basically tired...

Shoveling 45:00 [3]
weight:80.5kg

Super light snow, doesn't carry too far thus half of it hits front of snow bank and falls back into driveway or path. And wind blowing a lot of it around too. Hard to make quick progress..
2 PM

Shoveling 25:00 [3]

More clearing now that snow has stopped. Trying to expose pavement so melting will occur in sun, but drifting snow quickly covering things up... Cleared car off, quick melting once black metal exposed...

Considered going for a run.. -6.4F Subsequently reconsidered, should be about 30 degrees warmer later today, not that I'll get out then either...

Shoveling 20:00 [3]

Not much fallen yet, but felt like making a quick pass anyhow...

Walking 1 [0] 3.01 mi ( / mi) +81m / mi

To hardware store to buy shovels to replace ones we broke. Then over to bank & student union.
4 PM

Shoveling 30:00 [2]

Only about an inch of residual, but if I expose enough pavement, the sun should melt off a lot off tomorrow... before the next round...

Shoveling 30:00 [3]

Enough to get out of driveway. Only a couple inches, but end of drive was frozen solid. Roads pretty crappy all the way in, I think my traction light was flashing almost the entire way... Schools closed, but UCONN open...
5 PM

Shoveling 30:00 [3]

And more when I got home... Luckily the neighbor took pity on Ellen trying to chuck snow over the ever increasing snow banks and came over with snowblower. Wasn't much left when I pulled in. Looks like maybe 6 inches today...

Sunday Feb 8, 2015 #

Shoveling 15:00 [3]

Just cleaning up some of last night's snow to make way for the 10-14" they're calling for in the next 36 hours.
8 AM

Run - Road 54:06 [3] 5.73 mi (9:26 / mi) +66m 9:07 / mi
weight:80kg

Tried the Shenipsit Trail along lake - nopes... Tried unplowed dirt road around back of lake - better with broken out trail but crap footing so nopes again. In the end just snowy dirt road and slushy pavement. But not much colder than basement, so nice to get outside. HR strap never connected, so just gps track today. Stopped about 6-7 minutes in to help an older couple unstuck their car.

Shoveling 15:25 intensity: (1:56 @1) + (12:18 @2) + (1:11 @3)
ahr:107 max:119

After run... a cooldown? Interesting how shoveling has almost the same HR profile as easy cycling...

Run - Road 33:37 intensity: (31 @1) + (30 @2) + (8:46 @3) + (18:50 @4) + (5:00 @5) 4.02 mi (8:22 / mi) +60m 7:59 / mi
ahr:134 max:158 weight:79.4kg

Tough going. Dirt road was actually cleared better than pavement.
1 PM

Shoveling 25:00 [2]

Another full pass, only an inch but much easier to do multiple easy passes. Mostly pushing, less actual lifting/chucking. Back has been quite bothersome shoveling this year. Age may force me to consider a snowblower yet...
4 PM

Shoveling 30:00 [2]

Still coming down hard, but back edge appears to be moving through Charlieland, so should wind down soon. Dealing with 3' of packed end of driveway crap and mailbox.
6 PM

Shoveling 20:00 [2]

And a quick cleanup pass once the final band passed through. Probably another inch, plus cleaning off the car.

Some friends have been doing the Sufferlandia videos this week but I'm too cheap so was watching a cycling video from UTube. Nice European scenery but supposedly a cadence video. Had cadence target on screen but I could tell by looking at the riders shadow that the rider certainly wasn't doing those cadences and on downhill he was coasting (a lot). Also don't have a cyclometer so manually counting against stop watch. Hard to tease out 5rpm increments by hand. After a while just went by feel and would kick it to harder gears for higher rpm for the workout. May just go back to watching concert videos with fartlek style intervals during guitar solos. :-)
