City running 42:00 [3] 2.1 mi (20:00 / mi) +10m 19:42 / mi

Still feeling pretty weak. But with heavy rains forecast for most of the day, at 5:40am I decided to at least run a mile. Surprised myself and did two. But sweating heavily in humid air the oncoming storm was driving before it. Six days til my 10k out in Wheaton.

Must have really been exhausted by the six-mile run on Wednesday; Thursday night was torture: aches and pains unlike anything I've experienced...could hardly get up to go. Then fever over 100 degrees. But by today I felt a bit better; lower fever. So I want down to our condo to water Sari's plants and pick up some fresh cherries. Just slowly walking around, taking buses and el trains, seemed to build strength.

South Shore CC, Chicago. Got up at 3am for a 6:45am doctor's appointment. New doc, lengthy commute down to his office on the south side. Wanted to start on the right foot with this guy, so got there an hour early. But when 6:45 rolled around, still no doc, no nurse, no receptionist, no lights. Somebody finally wandered in after 7. Huh? Isn't getting to a 6:45am doctor's appointment difficult enough?

Later took the South Chicago Metra after walking through Hyde Park past Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House. Played nine holes; wanted to play 18 but must still be exhausted from yesterday's six mile run. Home by 11am.

Serious rain and thunder at dawn....then it all blew across Lake Michigan, leaving Chicago in a delightfully warm, sunny day. Did my 'long' run in preparation for my first 10k next weekend. Felt in control the entire way; no sense of exhaustion. Last year I did the 10k in 1:53; I'd love just to get below 2 hours now.

Hiking all over with bag of golf clubs. Took train all the way north to Libertyville with the idea of playing a round. But when I alit from the train the cold wind convinced me to get back on, and forget about golf. So four hours wasted this morning, plus a lot of aimless walking, looking stupid. Who would want to play golf in this weather?
