solid race for me. it got a bit aggressive from the start with quite a few fast dudes trying to push the pace. I played it smart and safe in the early miles just getting a feel for who the contenders were.
i know from the gun I'd have pretty good legs. Just felt strong and was able to easily close gaps and bring back attacks. the course was pretty much constant rollers. around 20-30' I started testing the group and thew in some surges and attacks. one of them shattered the group of 20+ and five of us were a way. we were ok together but I still put in a lot of work to make sure we stayed away.
about 40 miles in there was no way anybody was catching so I laid off the gas and sat in a lot but nobody would really work except nate (top 10 DK guy) and another guy so the pace slowed a lot.
with 10 miles to go I started making moves again just trying to crack the dude. nate and i started working together to crack the two other guys with us who weren't doing much work. i still had the legs to try to cover everything but with 3 strong dudes with me I couldn't get away solo.
heading to finish with .25 to go I was on the front driving hoping nobody could come around me. I didn't know the course and we can to a junction and thought we were going right. I went, they attacked left!! instant huge gap as i had to brake, turn, and then chase. ended up 4th on the day but so stoked with the effort and legs after a hard week.
used two big bottles of skratch with 2 scoops in each, SiS gels, and SFH push with an hour to go. all worked great.
exactly the kind of training day on tired leg. honestly cant believe how strong i was. probably all the IPAs and Waffles i consume.
some great power numbers too!!
