First usable AMRD (Automated Map Reading Detection) graph:

Measured with an accelerometer fixed to the map reading hand. Some code process the acceleration data into a "map angle" (deviation from map parallel to ground). Displayed with Quickroute. The map angle information is mapped onto the "elevation" information in the gpx file prior to loading into QR. I also had to interpolate the trackpoints from the garmin watch to get a pseudo 1s resolution (to detect quick glances at the map).

Unfortunately I started the GPS watch to late and the accelerometer ran out of memory before the finish.

More tests next weekend...

Swiss Champs Long - Got Grond - H35 - (14/33)
Very nice area and a great, championship worthy map and course. However, I made my "mistake of the year" if not in the last ten years...
Ok run until the 12th control. I wanted to see a big boulder on the way to the 13th but noticed some rocky features on the left. Wrongly went there and made a parallel error. It was almost impossible to relocate, so after a few minutes I climbed 25m to relocate on a big slope. Even now I found the control only in the second attempt. 10' lost... Another 3' mistake afterwards on the way to the 15th (not having a clear concept).
Even without this I was far away from the podium. I'm just not fast enough through this rough terrain and it was a lot of downhill as well.

Swiss Sprint Champs - Tigignas - H35 - (13/30)
Sprint in wooded area. Well, I would say that I was not really prepared for what was waiting here. After I managed the first three pretty well I missed the fourth by a few seconds but then the bad things started. On the way to the fifth I missed a trail and ended up going straight and managed to attack a wrong control as well. More than a minute lost. On the way to the next I took the wrong route and made another mistake in the circle. Another minute lost. A few controls later KS caught me (2') destroying my motivation completely...

At least all controls ;-). Tired legs right from the start. Looks like two bike sessions this year were not enough training for two bike-o races... Today was wet and muddy and very technical biking and many tricky route choices. A lot of fun!

WMOC Long Final - M35 - (23/60)

Very good start, catching the Fin starting before me at the fourth. However, Tom H passing on the sixth (2' behind). No chance to follow ;-). Continued with the Fin in the Sclepptau until the 11th, from then on all alone. Hit my knee badly from 18-19, had to walk for a minute or two. Probably due to the distraction I read the trails wron goin in to th nineteenth. Total of 4' time loss:-(. Tried to pull myself together which I somehow managed.

I'm a bit dissapointed with the 22nd place and the 4' mistakes on 19. But that's how it is and a top ten place was clearly out of reach.

Well, better today than on Friday. I made a really stupid mistake, reading on the wrong path, relocating wrongly once I noticed an making a parallel error afterwards. 5' lost to the second control... Afterwards mostly clean with some little wobbles. Met James along the course and were running together on and off. It was getting tough towards the end in this rough terrain.

Yup, that's it! Another clean race and today even the legs were ok. Again only a few safety stops but I saw all the "traps" and choose the right routes.

I think that's the best I could expect and it's nice to be able to have a very good race when it counts!
