Some impressions from Sardinia.

Bike 2:35:00 [3] 40.0 km (15.5 kph) +200m
shoes: Scott Spark 20

A "touristy" tour in Palau (northern part of Sardinia).

I went to the city to get some money and then took the ferry onto the isola La Maddalena. I crossed the little city and passed the bridge to the Islola Caprera. Here I visited some old forts and biked some hiking trails before I took the same way back.

Climbing 1:00:00 [0]

We climbed the Aguilia in Cala Golorizé, one of the most spectacular routes I ever did (a150m needle in one of the prettiest beaches I ever saw). When we were at the top very strong wind came up (30C right from the Sahara). This made the abseiling very tricky!

Cala Sisina via Su Irove Longu

Ah, what a ride! I started at the high plaine of Golgo and biked up to the road 125. Followed this for about half an hour. From here I did not see anyone until cala Sisine! I took a 4x4 trail leading along a high plaine with grasing animals (again cows, goats and pigs). After an hour the downhill started, first on the 4x4 track then on a mule track (very rocky and tricky to ride). Here my chain broke, luckily I could fix it with an easy link! Then the route changed into a awesome singletrail leading down to Cala Sisine. This singletrail was both very nice to ride and breathtaking with passages above or in the cliffs. The last part down to the Cals was then very rocky and I was mostly pushing the bike.

Down at the Cals Irene was waiting (she took the direct way down), I had lunch and took a quick dive in the sea before heading back up along a good dirt roead to where we started (still 15km and 400m climb).

Climbing 1:00:00 [3]

We wanted to go to Campo dei Miracoli but the guide was wrong. It said shade starting from 2pm, but it was still in bright sunlight. So we decided to go to Villagio Gallico again.

Combination of the "Ghost Road" and the nice downhill of the "Talana Olinie Sorbrine" ride.

Bad start, my tubeless tire leaked air, so I went back and fixed the tire. Took two spare tubes with me, just in case.

Found my way to the bottom of the "Gost Road" loop and worked my way up through the forest. The upper part was harldy ridable, I had to push for about one Km or so. It was here where the tire leaked again, so I put a tube in.
At the top I arrived at the Ghost Road. This road once connected two villages but was cut by a landslide and now is deserted. Animals (cows, pigs and goats) are walking now on the road. The road goes along a hillside an I had splendid views over the costal area.

Because I had a late start, due to the leaking tire, I decided to cut it short and took the downhill directly (instead of biking up first). The whole downhill is said to have some 70 switchbacks (of which about two thirds are ridable..). The downhill was very nice and except for one part where you had to take some stairs was ok for my technical skills.

At the bottom I decided to extend my singletrail feeling and wanted to take a hiking trail (which was shown on a map on the side of the road). Well, it ended somewhere out in nowhere and I had to carry the bike over rocks, through bushes and twice across a little stream. When I finally hit the road it was still a tough ride home against the wind.

Biking Monte Elini
From the Campground to the loop of Monte Elini on road. Then I did the loop (11km) and biked back on the road.
The loop was nice and technically challenging. Nice view from the top.

Vacation on Sardinia
After arriving at the Campground in Santa Maria Navarese I went for my first bike ride. I followed the Santa Maria Navarese "Freeride" form the great guide "Mountain Bike Sardinia". It was a bit difficult finding the trail, you had to read precisely the description in order not to miss a turn.
After a tough uphill (I was not yet used to the hot weather) there was a very technical downhill. Had to push the bike roughly 1/3 of the time. Fun nevertheless.

Swiss Sprint Champs - Zofingen (5/26)
Twelve seconds behind the medals but I'm still happy with my race. I'm loosing 20 seconds on the first three controls (in the forest), that's a bit too much. Then I run clean until the 18th control where I miss a passage and loose another 8".

After five years no (day) medal at a Swiss Champs in M35. It won't get easier in M40, I would have been 6th today (on the same course). But there are still some fast guys in my age running elite (and winning...).

9. National race, Munihubel - H35 - (3/19)
I had a good race with surprisingly good legs (regarding the lack of running training). However my effort wasn't really necessary, I'm 5' behind 1st/2nd and 4' ahead of 4th...
It was not really challenging course but some nice routechoices. The mapping of the vegetation was a bit sketchy, I got stuck a couple of times in the "white"...

bike-o race (6/7)
Nice course set by röfe. Lost roughly 5' on the free order because I messed up with the choice how to take them. Otherwise more or less clean, with a few minor wrong choices.
