Orienteering race 2:40:00 [3] 26.0 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: icebug
For some weeks I had been looking forward to this race: The Karrim'Hoc. I would run together with my brother Thomas and we were well prepared.
We were amongst the favorites, but had to fear some nice teams like Vis-running mate, Mellebeek-Timmers, Oeyen-Deferm and the brothers Vangasse and Goubau.
We arrived at the start just in time together with Oeyen-Deferm and Mellebeek-Timmers after 1.5km and a good 10' of warm up.
We decided to take our time to draw the complete route on our coloured map instead of starting immediately with the black-white copy with route on. 2nd day we noticed that it took about 5 minutes to do that. Than we missed 2nd control by 3-4 minutes and 4th control by another 2 minutes. So after 4 controls we probably were about 10' behind the leaders. Had to work our way back to the lead.
Control 5 they informed us that we were in 7th position. Could catch up 3 teams in the loop C B A and at the 9th control they informed us that we were 4th, about 4-5 minutes behind the lead.
11th control... suddenly we saw 3 teams: Vangasse-brothers, Goubau-brothers and Oeyen-Deferm. Didn't took long to get rid of them because we felt really fresh after 1h30' race... In the last hour we made the difference with the other teams. During the race we were thinking about Vis and running mate, but apparently they did not start. It's a pitty because we were prepared to compete against this strong team.
We were very surprised that our advantage to the 2nd team was 19 minutes. This meant that we could start with this advantage in the chase start of the 2nd day.
