Orienteering race 3:18:00 [3] 32 km (6:11 / km)
shoes: icebug
Saturday night we somehow had to celabrate our victory so like all Hamok-runners did we drank some Chimay... rouge - blanche et bleu.
9AM we started our race.
about 1km of warmup.
22km would become about 30km in real distance. First 2 controls we didn't take the best route choices but after that we were pretty focussed and didn't really miss any controls. The speed wasn't as high as the day before, one of the reasons was that we had this big advantage but in general the legs weren't as good as the day before.
After 3h07 of running we finished and were very happy that we had finished this though and very long race!
Winning this race was pretty emotional for me too because the last time I won it was together with my Father in '96, this was about 6 months before he passed away. I'm sure he would be very proud of his sons. Would like to dedicate this victory to him.
Now some rest and for sure I will enjoy the 1,5L bottle of Chimay "Grande Réserve"
Orienteering race 2:40:00 [3] 26 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: icebug
For some weeks I had been looking forward to this race: The Karrim'Hoc. I would run together with my brother Thomas and we were well prepared.
We were amongst the favorites, but had to fear some nice teams like Vis-running mate, Mellebeek-Timmers, Oeyen-Deferm and the brothers Vangasse and Goubau.
We arrived at the start just in time together with Oeyen-Deferm and Mellebeek-Timmers after 1.5km and a good 10' of warm up.
We decided to take our time to draw the complete route on our coloured map instead of starting immediately with the black-white copy with route on. 2nd day we noticed that it took about 5 minutes to do that. Than we missed 2nd control by 3-4 minutes and 4th control by another 2 minutes. So after 4 controls we probably were about 10' behind the leaders. Had to work our way back to the lead.
Control 5 they informed us that we were in 7th position. Could catch up 3 teams in the loop C B A and at the 9th control they informed us that we were 4th, about 4-5 minutes behind the lead.
11th control... suddenly we saw 3 teams: Vangasse-brothers, Goubau-brothers and Oeyen-Deferm. Didn't took long to get rid of them because we felt really fresh after 1h30' race... In the last hour we made the difference with the other teams. During the race we were thinking about Vis and running mate, but apparently they did not start. It's a pitty because we were prepared to compete against this strong team.
We were very surprised that our advantage to the 2nd team was 19 minutes. This meant that we could start with this advantage in the chase start of the 2nd day.
Note
rest day... and some news from Finland!
I have been in contact with the Finnish Club "Lappeen Riento" for several weeks and now we discussed possible training camps.
I will probably do following training programm:
April:
1.4.-5.4. Training camp, including one competition
15.-18.4. Tiomila qualification races
30.4 -2.5 Tiomila, Finspång, Sweden
May:
13.-16.5. Training camp, Kerava, southern Finland, including one competition.
June:
17.-20.5. Jukola
I really look forward to do all this together with The finnish guys from "Lappeen Riento". They are a motivated group and I think we can lift eachother to a higher level.
