I won't be in the Triangle for Ian Shields' farsta relay at Lake Crabtree park next weekend, so I got an advanced copy of the courses and ran a pair. I did it without a compass for some added difficulty. Great fun.

One last day at the Eno until mid-July, when I get back from my upcoming trip. A fairly productive day, although I will definitely need to go back and double-check a couple of things. Uncomfortably humid -- temp in the mid 90's and dew point in the mid 70's. Looking forward to some drier weather out west.

Back to Eno. Added the deer processing camp to the map, even though it's beyond the park boundary. Couldn't find the alleged model A.

Great day to be out at Eno River. Dew point in the upper 40's, and I made very good progress on the map. Although the far west side of the map has never been visited, almost everything for the October meet has now had at least a good once-over. I ran into a fellow from the Eno River Association in the middle of the woods, and we had a nice conversation, marveling at how rare it was to encounter any humans in that vicinity. He was pretty experienced with that area, and I thought that he might be able to give me some tips about how to access the far west side of the park easily. Surprisingly though, he had never been there either. If the only way to get out there is from the east, the area will only ever be good for an ultralong blue course. He did point me to two model A remains in the woods that I'm going to have to check-out and (hopefully) map.

Mapping around the Cox and Breeze homesites. I couldn't find any real remnants of the Cox site (i.e., nothing yet mapped as a ruin), but plenty of goodies at the Breeze site.

Finishing up mapping the far SW corner of the park, where the park's property was extended slightly into another little holding, shaped very much like the Gadsden Purchase. Somewhat thicker vegetation here; not super pleasant.

I dropped Noga off at the airport, and since I was right next door, I thought I would take a little jog out at Umstead. Loblolly trail. Very slow, but enjoyable. Gotta love the dew points in the low 50s.

Orienteering 1:40:06 [3] 6.9 km (14:30 / km)

The BOK meet was postponed because the park closed its bike trails (too wet). Undeterred, I went to Umstead instead with a red course designed last March by Ian Shields. I forgot my O-shoes, and had to do it in my crappy North Face shoes that have zero traction. And for training purposes, I never used my compass. Navigation was very solid, and I lost time only to the crappy shoes, the heat, and my cruddy physical condition.

Pretty productive mapping session at Eno River.

And I wrote a new page for the BOK website:
