Run (ASP loop) 1:37:12 10.4 mi (9:21 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

I ran this pretty hard on the flats, downhills, ran slow up the small downhills and walked up the really steep (and muddy) hills. Walking and water stops hurt overall pace which otherwise felt more like an 8:15-8:30. But who knows.
I felt very stiff today in my calves, I''m not sure if it's from the mini-sprint session a few days ago, or the short spinning class. (Does spinning do that?) Guess I need to get back in shape.
I wore insoles in my running shoes for the first time almost all summer. I stopped and took one out with about a mile to go because I was having some knee issues. Knee issues went away, but so did the ability to keep up a faster pace speed (and this was downhill!). Interesting trade-off. I'll have to figure this one out.

Stationary Bike (Spinning) 45:00 [3]

Today it's raining, and I have trail riding plans if the weather does clear this evening. Not sure I want to bike to the barn anymore so I decided to give the 3M spinning class a try.

This trainer was a pleasant change from previous ones I've had (at Lifetime); he didn't say...."OK, now notch it up to the highest level you can stand for five minutes go...go....go...., pretend you are climbing up Mt. Everest with a shark behind you, chasing you down, du dum...du dum...."
and then, when you are finally done with the five minutes and are spent..."OK, now notch it up again and we have just another 90 seconds so go go go go..." WHAT?
He just said what we were going to do, played good music, and kept to the plan.

Run 54:00 6.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics

Ran up Afton Blvd hill, through Vallaiswood and down Coulee. route
I have been exceedingly slow for a long time now, not snapping out of it. Why would I even think you can "snap out" of slow? It's not like I'm running in a nightmare and just need to wake up.
So I ran about 8 striders after the first three miles, 30 sec each, then ran down the coulee quite fast. I think perhaps it helped. The last striders and the long sprint felt much better.

Bike hills 1:20:00 [3] 17.0 mi (4:42 / mi)

Rode up St. Croix trail to the barn- 6.2 miles. Big long hills, up and down due to River terrain. Afton has determined not to allow "progress" to take over the nature of the township, and so the roads are beautiful, windy and narrow and 55 mph. I see bikes here all the time, but I thought the ride was just a little scary. Probably if I were more experienced, I would realize that it's really entirely safe to try to be riding on a 4 inch white line with no shoulder as all this traffic goes whizzing by me.

Gave Spirit a good workout, and rode with my friend Jody for a while.... poles, playing around, talking.

I figured it might be worthwhile to see if the back way home were a bit better. I guess it's hard to say... it was 4.5 miles longer, on gravel/dirt roads a good bit of the way, hills were smaller. So I guess it's just different.
