Orienteer 1:58:00 [2] ** 5.8 km (20:21 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

Very low energy today. Maybe it should have been a hint when I slept in super late, dreaming of orienteering instead of getting up and running as had been my plan when I went to bed.....
I was in Forest Park, doing a course walk through prior to the meet. I thought that was a little odd....didn't know they did course walk-throughs in Orienteering (probably a throw back to my Cross X days, I grew up 1/2 mile from Forest Park and routinely jogged, sometimes raced there both in HS and College). Some of the controls had some circuit training work. I asked... where does the thinking part come in? And was handed a few sheets of paper with questions that would be asked at control 12 (where there was a book to read). Kind of like an SAT test; which my daughter just took.
Anyway, maybe I should have stayed in bed. Instead, I ran Lake Elmo, trying to find 31 areas, boulders, re-entrants, etc. Not too much problem finding them, but my mind was really in slow motion today, and my legs were feeling the same. Some of the areas, I wasn't sure if I found them and went back from a different angle just to be sure, so this exercise took a very long time. As I said, just extremely low low energy both in brain and body.
Hope I'm not getting sick just in time for my vacation.

Run (Warm-up and down) 15:00 [2]

Run 30:00 [3] 3.1 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

Down River Road and back. Poor Alice was locked in the bathroom all day with Rita; she seemed pleased to get to stretch her legs a little bit. It's just getting a little chilly to let the dogs run around outside all day. Of course, little lazy Rita was just fine staying home.

Run 1:22:00 [2] 7.5 mi (10:56 / mi)

Detweiler Park, Peoria, IL
I arrived in Peoria at 9:30 AM, with my only meeting at 4PM.... and just looked for the greenest blotch on the National Car Rental map of Peoria. Turned out it was a good strategy. Detweiler Park overlooks a wide spot on the Illinois river, has a few creeks, lots of ridges, trees, small trails. Lots of twisty ups and downs. Open trees. It's not super huge, but it was great running area and the weather was over 50F.
Because I had been up since 3:30 and slept poorly on top of that, this was just a slow jog to waste time. I also didn't think a heavy sweat would be a good idea when I changed back into my bus. attire...

Run 39:50 [4] 5.1 mi (7:49 / mi)

This started out as a 3 mile short easy run to the end of River Road and back, just to stretch out a little. Although I was tempted to stay home and enjoy the solitude, with my Thanksgiving guests gone, daughters out for a bit, and a luxuriously empty home.
After about 100 yards, I thought... aw what the heck, this is a nice evening, might as well run the loop. It did feel good, so I decided to push it a little harder. First half felt great. Although by the end, it wasn't feeling quite so delicious anymore. The uphills just were not good. Ran the downhills fast, but ended up having to drag Alice again... which takes some of the fun out of it.
