Run 1:55:00 [3] 10.6 mi (10:51 / mi)

I wasn't feeling all that great this evening, so I cut off a part of my run. (Could be that the 1/2 DQ Blizzard didn't digest too well. No Cheeseburger this time, so I know where to lay the blame.) But I still thought I kept up a pretty decent pace other than some walking up the hills, so I was surprised to find that it took me almost 2 hours to go what I thought was about 9.5 miles (I cut a corner off my 10 mile course through ASP due to nausea and feeling it was okay to take it just a little easy). I re-measured distance once I got home; turns out my 10 mile course is 11 miles. And my 9 mile course is 10.6. Explains a lot, really.
Still not a blazing pace. However, I have been suffering from chronic Thanksgiving, manifesting itself primarily in pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and so I was glad just to be able to burn off some calories.
Fairly moony night, so Alice and I ran with the headlamp off. No one else in the park.

Run 50:00 [3] 5.1 mi (9:48 / mi)

Got up late this morning, still full from Thanksgiving dinner. Ran a slow River Road loop with Alice.

Run (Terrain) 58:00 [3] 2.5 mi (23:12 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

1/2 mile warm-up and then 2+ miles along creek and back. Some moonlight to guide the way. I'm getting a little better at finding and remembering where the trails are in the dark, so there were some spots that were at a nice pace. And other spots, still, where I am picking my way through brush and almost standing still wondering WHICH way might offer a reasonable path.

Run (jog/walk) 1:58:00 [2] 10.5 mi (11:14 / mi)

It's past 9:00 already, I've had my run for the day, and Parents (in from St. Louis) and kids are still asleep.
Trying to stay ahead of the calories, but it's a lost cause already. Already gained weight today, right when I got up and before I ate. (Not sure how that is possible).
Got up at 6, had my coffee while checking things out on my laptop... and then had a nice gentle run through Afton State Park, with Alice. There were a few other dog walkers out already, saw a couple joggers even. Guess everyone's getting a jump on Thanksgiving.....

oh... I hear some motion upstairs. Better get the coffee going again.

Run 47:00 [2] 5.1 mi (9:13 / mi)

River road loop, gentle jog. Alice got to pull me down the hill, and seemed happy to be out on a cool night.

Orienteer race (Orange) 38:16 [4] 4.4 km (8:42 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

After having been over my head at Camp Ripley and Kettle Moraine State Forest, new approach was to try to work on easier course until I have some clue as to what I'm doing. Battle Creek Orange certainly fit the description of "easier", and was great exercise run (or walk) at a comfortable pace and to try to put together some of the beginner skills I've been working on. At BCP, everything is on or near a trail, which gave me opportunity to run and think ahead.... which is definitely a new skill for me.

Orienteer race (White) 14:13 [4] 2.5 km (5:41 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

Just a way to practice picking up the pace a little, and still running with map, keeping my head together.

Orienteer race (Green) 1:02:57 [3] 5.0 km (12:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 305

Intent was to practice on finding the controls, jogging, picking up pace only when I was very confident. Had a couple of times where I was mostly in the right spot, didn't quite see the control, learned some things. But because this was at Battle Creek --it is hard to get too off track without some glaring features or trails to set me back so I recovered without too many minutes lost.
(Probably also helped that this was my third course.. I was getting familiar with the Park and some of the Controls!)

Thanks, Darrel and David- I appreciated your courses... challenging to create in this small park I am sure, but still APs to be found, choices to be made. Much fun.

Run warm up/down 40:00 [3] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up/down and control retrieval.
