Hiking 1:17:49 [3] 2.69 mi (28:56 / mi) +565ft 24:08 / mi

While my orienteering has been pretty much non-existent, I finally noticed the BG79 Re-enactment about 10 days ago. And then I got to read the reports of PG, Charlie and PBricker, which inspired me to at least print out the map and make a trip to Mt. Tom to see if I could do any of it. My goal wasn't to fnish, just to see if I could orienteer in such complex terrain without much training. Short answer: No.

I got hopelessly lost on the way to #1, never bothered to relocate and decided to keep going to the remainng #2 through #4 controls. I'm too embarassed to post my route to #2, but I will admit to going past the ruins on Mt. Norwottuck. LOL

And then disaster struck as I lost my footing going down a steep, rocky hill and ended up rolling once or twice while managing to smash my knee into a rock. It didn't seem terribly bad, no blood, but it did hurt a lot. Alas, walking downhill was quite painful on any sort of slope, so I was reduced to limping back at a very slow pace. I did visit #3 and #4 on my out though.

Now icing and elevating and hoping there's no harm done, other than to my ego. :-)
