Note

Today was the end of my course setting / course checking duties for 2018. The AWOC championships went well, with people coming from Melbourne, Canberra and Bendigo. My course (2) was a success, with Debbie Davey making no mistakes and finishing in 55 mins. The Goonan twins were the only people to do the 13.5 course, and came back within minutes of each other. Lots of older (70+) men chose to do the men's championship course, but most were out for around 2 hours and came back looking totally wiped out (maybe Leigh set this course with slightly younger men in mind). Only one AWOC junior competed in the junior category, and his Dad complained the moderate course was too hard (because the boy couldn't navigate, but still wanted to win). The biggest contest was in the cake section, with my giant banana cake coming second to a very fruity fruit cake. I collected controls, and then buttered up the visiting Parks Victoria rangers, one of whom l knew well from my fire days. The other one, a fit looking girl, we convinced to come to our next event as a competitor.

Walk/jog 1:06:00 [3] 7.0 km (9:26 / km)

Street O at Croydon. The event was a fair distance east of Melbourne and attendance numbers were down. I picked a fairly hilly route, my knee was sore and l just couldn't run. There were lots of groups of children out for Halloween.
I went to Tim Dent's memorial in the morning. It was well attended by orienteers, rogainers and bushwalkers. It was a fitting tribute to a well loved man.
