Orienteering 27:45 [3] 3.0 km (9:15 / km)

Middle Earth Sprint at Rotorua. I focused, visited the controls in chronological order (a first for this carnival) and checked my control number (didn't check feature, though). However, l took the long route to 1 (visiting the start triangle, unlike other people) and ran off the map between 6 and 7 (as l didn't see the marked gap). Distance a guess as l turned the garmin on but not off.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 7.49 km (12:01 / km)

Middle Earth long distance race at Rotorua. Beautiful area and great start / finish areas in the redwood forest. I had some similar issues to the last race, heading to 16 after 3. I then mispunched on 4, at the road crossing, possibly through not looking at my control number (either that or it didn't register).
I also had a problem at 10, when l found a control but it wasn't mine. Confused, l went back and then decided to relocate. On returning to the control, the kind man at the corner told me to check my control description and of course l was in the right spot but my control was behind a tree! Lesson learnt - check control description and number! MP

Orienteering 1:13:00 [3] 4.0 km (18:15 / km)

Oceania middle distance in a fabulous karst landscape. I started at midday, by which point all muddy areas had had about 1000 people go through them. I took a nose dive into the first muddy patch before the start triangle and emerged with muddy map, glasses, hat, clothes. Not a good start and it was all downhill from there. After washing my map in a creek it was a bit more legible. Took a slow route 6 to 7, went to 12 before 11, and then mistook 3 for 13. Oh well, its not as though it was the world championships or anything....:(
Distance a guess.
