Orienteering 1:05:00 [3] 5.0 km (13:00 / km)

Oceania relays. Bit of a disaster really. I was first runner in our W55 team but there was no map for me. So they just grabbed another map and gave it to me. As expected, there were no maps for Margie and Philippa either. Margie got an open mixed map and Philippa got a short one, but realised it and came back. They are not happy! Bit annoying as we had entered on time, put our team in early and didn't have any team changes.

Anyway, out on the run I was fine for a while but got confused in the pine forest when I found a well trodden track, but it wasn't the main track, which was 50 metres further on. I also got confused in the open land prior to the spectator control. Distance is again a guess .

Oceania long distance event. I tried really hard to do the course carefully, but there didn't appear to be any easy route to #1 and I spent a lot of time searching. A similar problem at #4. The rest were fine but I had really sore feet by the last few controls and lost energy. Distance is a guess.

Orienteering 22:30 [3] 3.0 km (7:30 / km)

Oceania sprint in Auckland. I headed off to the start in sunshine and wearing sunglasses. However, by the time l started it was dark and pouring with rain, and l had a bit of trouble reading the map. I managed fairly comfortably up to 10, but then got lost in the vegetable patch (a LA Peter rabbit style) due to a poor route choice. I came back soaked, and my result was dismal. Regardless, l had a good time and it was nice to see everyone. Pretty tired still from lack of sleep (41 hours between sleeps is just too much!)

Last blast around Blackburn lake and creeklands before heading to NZ tonight on the red eye special. I've been a bit lazy this week due to work pressures (l'm going to be typing right up to the last minute) and a couple of small niggles that l thought might benefit from a rest. Looking forward to the next few weeks.
