Orienteering 1:07:00 [3] 4.0 km (16:45 / km)
(injured)
I haven't been orienteering since Easter and it is about that long since I could run. However Ian convinced me to fly to Canberra for the Aus champs O for the last weekend of the carnival.
I had a little bit of a warmup on the Ainslie-Majura Range b&w map, which I believe was the first O map used in Canberra. The controls had a letter on them and you had to make your control card with a coloured pencil.
I just walked slowly and chatted to people - finding it enough just to be walking in rough terrain. Some of the controls were in very inprecise locations e.g. 'a gully' (in contrast to 'the gully', which would be marked on the map). I went too far up the hill at 5, which was a shame as I then had to climb down a very steep slope, which my knee didn't like. There was a bit of pain.
Still, it was nice to be in Canberra, nice to be in the bush and nice to see people.
