Run 31:33 [3] 4.5 km (7:01 / km)
(injured)

It was at a low intensity and it wasn't very far - but I went for a run today. Knee is a bit sore but I feel better. Fairly significant headwind some of the way. Couldn't wait any longer. Life is returning.

Swim 35:00 [3]
(injured)

Earlyish swim in the Benalla pool on a hot day. I haven't done much exercise this week because I have been working like a slave - catching the 06:15 train to the city (with the yellow and orange men) and getting home around 8.00 pm, with little motivation to do anything other than eat and sleep, and no breaks in between.

But it has been all worth it - the state fire exercise is off and running, starting with a 4 day out weather forecast and state meeting, a one day out weather forecast/state planning and a full day's exercise next Tuesday, commencing at 07:00.

Every man (and his dog) is either coming or wants to come, including the Deputy Premier and the royal commission implementation monitor. 150 people from 40 agencies will be at the state control centre and the regions have been activated to provide input. I haven't been very sympathetic to the complaints regarding the amount of work involved - this exercise will have a realism never seen before in an emergency management exercise. People want me to prepare everything for every job beforehand - 'so you'd like me to single-handedly run the state control centre and run 5 fires. Yep, I'm happy to do the work of 200 people...........'. Hmmmm.

Question of the day - 'Will the exercise be cancelled if it is a bad day?' I was tempted to say - 'yes of course, and then you can all go home and we'll find a another 150 people to come and run the actual fire..'. However, at this stage, Tuesday is forecast to be reasonably mild.

The weather for the exercise is uncannily like today, with an early change (the change had to come at 14:00, to fit into the working day), except that the conditions we are using are from 2009 and the underlying soil is a lot drier in most places than at present.

Can't say where the fires are, other than one at Kooyoora, which doesn't start quiet where I intended. The modelling (using BOM weather data and Pheonix Rapid fire modelling) (no human intervention) which has been done in advance shows most of the fires going where no one thought they would, partly as an accident of the selection of the point of ignition and partly due to the passing of the change .......with catastrophic results, unfortunately.

But it is a good thing that the state is preparing for the worst case and this is the commissioner's chance to show government that, if the worst happened, the state would be prepared and he is in charge.

So that's why l haven't done any exercise. ..
