Orienteering 57:00 [3] 3.5 km (16:17 / km)

Lovelybanks. I was very slow on the downhill to #1, but then went well. Unfortunately I missed a control on the grass during the sprint to the finish. MP.

Orienteering 31:35 [3] 3.3 km (9:34 / km)

Uni of Tas prologue. Great venue and challenging course. I was a bit too tired to run up the hills and got lost around the underpass, but all OK.

8 AM

Run 33:45 [3] 5.0 km (6:45 / km)

Run around Blackburn streets and creeklands. It was the fastest l've been for some time. Probably something to do with my ex-boss (who l am working with for a while) sitting at home waiting for his breakfast to be cooked.

Run 39:22 [3] 5.67 km (6:57 / km)
(injured)

Wasn't going to risk the tweaky knee bush orienteering today (and too much to do workwise before l go away) and opted for a safe creeklands run. Knee a little better, but maybe needs some rolling or something before the weekend. The bushland smelt glorious after the rain

Saturday Mar 24, 2018 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Decided to not risk the tweaky knee and in a timely move, cleaned the house gutters. Three hours later, just as l finished the last corner, the first raindrops fell. The subsequent torrential downpour then went down the drainpipes instead of flooding everywhere. Yay!

Run 39:00 [3] 5.4 km (7:13 / km)

Run around Blackburn lake and creeklands. My knee gave a major painful tweak after about 300m and l thought l was done for. Luckily it then settled, after some stretching, for the remainder of the run. I think the answer to my problem is to walk at Wednesday evening street Os, as running in the evening seems to aggravate it for several days afterwards.
It was quite warm. I don't know what clothes to take to Tassie. I know they said to take warm clothes, but l've been stuck with a bag full of winter woollies in warm weather before .

Run 40:00 [3] 4.8 km (8:20 / km)

Street O at North Balwyn. There is a reason the streets are named 'Mountain View' and 'Panorama' and I had to walk some of it. My knee hurt the whole way. It doesn't like evenings, but l want to go to see people. It's not looking good for Tassie, sadly.

Tuesday Mar 20, 2018 #

Run 36:25 [3] 5.0 km (7:17 / km)

Run around Blackburn creeklands. Feeling generally weary and knee tweaky.

Sunday Mar 18, 2018 #

Run 1:06:00 [3] 9.0 km (7:20 / km)

Run around the river at Shepparton in a howling gale - fast in one direction and slow the other way. I thought there was a fire nearby but it turned out to be a large dust storm approaching. A large flock of cockatoos was clinging to the trees and very very noisy noisy. Pretty horrible day in the NE.

Saturday Mar 17, 2018 #

Run 37:43 [3] 5.4 km (6:59 / km)

Woke to a headache (probably from staring at a blue screen too much this week) and decided to try and run it out. Ran around Benalla lake and gardens, and felt a bit better afterwards. It is terribly dry here.

Wednesday Mar 14, 2018 #

Run (Street O) 31:00 [3] 4.05 km (7:39 / km)

Final summer series at Maroondah Triangle. I still feel tired from the weekend and both knees are a bit tender. Lucky it was only a short run. It was followed by the scout BBQ and annual presentation. I came second in Class C3 after being pipped at the post in the last race by a young bloke who is a newcomer. I have to win C3 to progress to C2, but newcomers keep starting there and beating me. Looks like I'll be stuck in C3 forever!

10 AM

Orienteering (Melbourne Sprint Weekend) 16:27 [3] 2.4 km (6:51 / km)

Event 5 Royal Park. I worked on the start so started late. Great course through the trees. Loved it. 5th.
3 PM

Orienteering (Melbourne Sprint Weekend) 15:30 [3] 2.28 km (6:48 / km)

Keilor Secondary College. I started well, winning three out of four of the early legs, probably starting too fast. Then it all fell apart. I had no legs for the long legs. Then l overshot one control badly, went to 10 before 9, took the long route rather than run through the start and staggered down the finish shuts. Bit of a disaster really. I think l was tired by this stage and could feel a sore throat coming on, on the way home. Luckily only the best 5 races counted and l came 4th overall in W60. Pretty happy with that. Great long weekend!

11 AM

Orienteering (Melbourne Sprint Weekend) 13:19 [3] 2.02 km (6:36 / km)

Yarra Valley Grammar. Nice course and l felt pretty good. My placings were starting to become relatively consistent and not too far behind a couple of others.
4 PM

Orienteering 15:45 [3] 2.29 km (6:53 / km)

Kurunjang School, Melton. I had terrible trouble finding the start triangle on the map and possibly stood there for around 30 seconds. I then made a few errors and poor route choices. My eyes were really watery in the wind and l couldn't see. Navigated off Ron F who formed an unmapped manmade feature in the middle of one courtyard. Legs didn't want to run either. However, others must have had troubles too. Consistent result.
Quote of the day from Warren 'You're starting to look good in W60.' Thanks Warren!

11 AM

Orienteering (Melbourne Sprint Weekend) 13:47 [3] 2.08 km (6:38 / km)

Monash Uni. I was tossing up about whether to pretend l was 10 (or 20) years younger and get a poor result, or to embrace my new age category and do OK. I decided on the latter. A few kindly folk suggested perhaps they had put me in the wrong age group.
Race 1 - l made a few errors and discovered, towards the end that, if l put my foot on the accelerator pedal, l could go faster!
4 PM

Orienteering (Melbourne Sprint Weekend) 18:45 [3] 2.26 km (8:18 / km)

Caulfield Grammar. It was terribly hot and the course was hilly. I could barely run and my knee hurt. I carried my compass and actually used it a couple of times to speed up decisions. Made an error on 1 and got an extra control. Fabulous course. I also love SIAir! The accelerator pedal went on half way round.
Was tired when l got home and ate chocolate and lollies for dinner.

Friday Mar 9, 2018 #

Run 48:00 [3] 6.7 km (7:10 / km)

Run around Blackburn lake and creeklands, following a different route to normal. My knee was a bit sore almost the whole way - but started to feel better by the 6km mark. I hope it comes good for the weekend. For some distance the bird song was ruined by the sound of continual screaming, and l thought l was about to arrive at a murder scene. But it was just a very small child telling its mother it did not want to get out of its pusher.

Wednesday Mar 7, 2018 #

Walk 43:00 [3] 4.3 km (10:00 / km)

Busy day with a colleague staying at my house. Went off to street-O but felt really tired. Ran the first 500 meters, then walked. Knee was sore, feet were sore and eventually l just gave in as a DNF and went home.

Tuesday Mar 6, 2018 #

Run 37:35 [3] 5.31 km (7:05 / km)

Slept in and then felt half asleep running around Blackburn lake and creeklands. Lots of bird watchers today. Bumped into (not literally) Ron F running the other way.

Sunday Mar 4, 2018 #

Orienteering 1:25:53 [3] 7.76 km (11:04 / km)

Neil's hagaby event at Heathcote. Fabulous area and fabulous event with individual maps (for everyone except me, of course). Once l got the replacement map sorted, l felt pretty sprightly in the bush the whole way. However, l made a few errors. I couldn't see one control on my second visit to a particular site. I got lost about 50 meters from the car at the finish, went to a control out of order and had to back track, and wavered on a long leg and overshot the control. My result wasn't good, but at least l finished and didn't mispunch, unlike most of the women (4 of them) who would normally be in my age group.

Note

Correction (for the record): one MPd and three DNFd. Another in our age group won the overall class.

Saturday Mar 3, 2018 #

Run 44:40 [3] 6.3 km (7:05 / km)

Run around Blackburn lake and creeklands. Tried as hard as l could but still could not get a good time. Then watered my vegie garden, where every ripening vegetable has been eaten by possums. Grrrrr.

Run 35:14 [3] 5.0 km (7:03 / km)

Run around Blackburn creeklands. I am trying to get back into a routine of morning runs, but seem to have lost a bit of fitness and discipline while overseas, despite having skied miles. I am going to have to make an effort over the next few weeks as Easter is fast approaching
