Walk 1:10:00 [2] 7.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

A walk around Blackburn creeklands.l'm gradually increasing my activity but don't seem to be losing any weight.

Wednesday Jan 29, 2014 #

Walk 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Street O at Blind Creek. Felt quite tired. Back at work today.

Tuesday Jan 28, 2014 #

Swim 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla pool. Last day of holiday today. It is amazing how household jobs always manage to expand to fill all the time available, so no time left to do all the things I want to do.

Run 46:22 [3] 6.1 km (7:36 / km)
(injured)

Run at Reef Hills. It was hot, hilly and I was painfully slow - feeling like a lump of lead - but I didn't stop, so that was good. No Roger rabbit this morning.

Sunday Jan 26, 2014 #

MTB 1:30:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:05 / km)
(injured)

Bike ride around Rutherglen and Corowa. I got a bit sunburnt.
I'm having a nice quiet time at home and managing to get a few things done.
To my surprise a little black and white rabbit has taken up residency in my backyard. It was there when I got home on Wednesday and is still there. It sits behind a bit of wire pretending it is in a cage. None of the neighbours have lost a rabbit so I'm not sure where it has come from, but I hope it stays. No pressure.
My other activity has been attempting to sew. I used to be quite keen on sewing - but the 3 hour very easy pattern has taken me 9 hours so far!

Walk 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Back to a walk around Blackburn. I now have a week off work and am heading to Benalla for a little holiday. YAY!

Walk/jog 1:14:00 [3] 7.88 km (9:23 / km)
(injured)

Street O fundraising event for the Peter McCallum Centre at Mullum Creek. I was a bit tired from last night but jogged two thirds of the way. The problem was that it was very hilly and the uphill walking parts were slow, so my time appears as though I walked the whole way. Oddly, I was with Ray and Dale again for most of the event, but they definitely still had running in their legs (although they didn't do the MTBO last night) and there was no outsmarting to be done. A few controls were a bit out, as they have been in most events lately - but nevermind. The event was followed by another sausage sizzle (we had one last night) and a raffle (the organiser's name was drawn - but she probably deserved the prize). I haven't had to cook this weekend.
By the end my knee was sore and when I got home I collapsed on the couch for a snooze. WHen I woke up I thought I might never move again. I am SO unfit!

Run 43:51 [4] 5.42 km (8:05 / km)
(injured)

Street O training run on a pleasant morning after an unbearable week of heat. This morning the event was a sprint event at Tally Ho organised by Geoff. There were 19 controls locations on the 4.5 km mass start line course and I found myself trying quite hard to outsmart the people around me, especially since I couldn't run fast. I ended up in a pack with Dale and Ray and managed to successfully outdo them, even though they both ran faster than me. I couldn't outsmart Caroline or Bill though, as they could both outsmart and run faster than me, and were miles ahead..

In my opinion, even though this wasn't a real event, the combination of distance and the detail of a sprint course made this event fantastic. Normally sprint courses (for my age group) are about 2.5 km at the most - far too short - but this had the distance and the complexity. Well done Geoff. Best event of this type I have been to. (NB - note the '4' for effort!).

This is the first of 3 great Melbourne based events this weekend - worth staying home for!
6 PM

MTBO 1:15:25 [3] 13.35 km (5:39 / km)
(injured)

Stage 2 of the weekend's activities - MTBO at Lysterfield Lake. A 75 minute score event organised by BKV's newest members - Caroline and Bill! (MTBO only members, still with MFR for foot-O). There was a good turnout this year, with a lot of new riders, most with super good bikes and super good riding skills!

This event is on each year and I am starting to learn the limits of the my ability in this terrain - so planned my course carefully, anticlockwise this year - but was still 25 seconds late (possibly lost time on the last hill).
Although I only MTB a couple of times a year, I seemed to be a bit better on the single track - maybe because I took my toe clips off and am just riding on the pedals, which makes it easier to stop and start.

Walk 55:00 [2] 5.5 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Street O at Gardiners Creek. Although hot at the start, it wasn't too bad once walking. I worked on the principle that cool air sinks and stuck to the valley, which was very pleasant and pretty.
The house was hot when l got home.

Sunday Jan 12, 2014 #

Walk 1:15:00 [2] 7.5 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Walk around Blackburn on a very pleasant warm evening

Saturday Jan 11, 2014 #

Run 59:30 [3] 7.2 km (8:16 / km)
(injured)

Orienteering training run from Zerbes Reserve, Doncaster. The event was well advertised and therefore well attended. I knew it must be a training run, 'cos I was in the lead from the start (though not for long). That would never happen in a real event.
I went north to the hilly area and ran the whole way, including up every hill, without stopping, except for one short extremely steep pinch in a park. I was slow on the ups and slow on the downs (didn't want to hurt knee) so time is really slow - but kept jogging and am pleased with myself. I can now get the distance I want, with the hills included. Just need to get faster and be able to do it more often! But that will happen. At least there is progress.

Thursday Jan 9, 2014 #

Walk 1:02:00 [2] 6.6 km (9:24 / km)
(injured)

Street O in Croydon North. I just walked, even though l could possibly have run - but l am protecting my knee (which improves day by day) in anticipation of some running on the weekend. Much the area was very pretty - especially the area around the waterways and parks of the north west.
I felt sorry for anyone travelling to the event by train. There is chaos and mayhem at Blackburn station, with hundreds of passengers disembarking and catching buses between there and Ringwood while rail works are underway. Phil Torode is driving one of the buses.

Tuesday Jan 7, 2014 #

Walk 1:07:00 [2] 6.7 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Walk around Blackburn.

Sunday Jan 5, 2014 #

Run 50:59 [3] 7.0 km (7:17 / km)
(injured)

Run around Reef Hills with Peter. I am starting to get the distance and times that I had pre-arthroscope. The problem is that I can only do this once a week (twice a week seems to make my knee tender) and on gravel, which is hard to find in Melbourne. Peter ran the whole way about 2 meters in front of me, in a failed attempt to try and make me go faster.

I spent yesterday with my 7 year old godddaughter and her family picking blueberries at Lima South. I learnt a few new things, including that global warming is caused by the sun moving closer to the earth!

Wednesday Jan 1, 2014 #

Walk 1:05:00 [3] 6.78 km (9:35 / km)
(injured)

Street O in Hawthorn. It was raining all afternoon but, true to form, eased off in time for the event. Melbourne is like a ghost town at this time of year. It was a breeze getting there and then hardly any traffic on the course. Knee was a bit tender to begin with, but felt a bit better as time went on. I spent the rest of the day attempting to assemble flat pack furniture.
