Walk 57:00 [3] 5.6 km (10:11 / km)
(injured)

Street-O at Valley Reserve. I was walking a bit better although there was still some pain on the downhills and l was passed by people who shouldn't have. The area was hilly so lots of runners were walking up the hills as well. It was a nice area for a picnic afterwards, although there were a number of uninvited guests. 'Thank God for the Aeroguard'!

Walk 1:22:00 [3] 7.6 km (10:47 / km)
(injured)

I went to Geoff's scout street-O as it was close by in Blackburn. Geoff used only the creeklands and streets but managed to set a nice course and I even found some places l haven't visited before. Unfortunately a number of controls were misplaced - one significantly. But it was a nice walk.

Swim 45:00 [3] 1.3 km (34:37 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla pool, followed by various experiments with flippers etc to see if I could find an exercise that suits my knee, as breaststroke is not all that good for it.

It is very smoky here today as there is a large fire not too far away at Boho. It is travelling up a valley and doesn't have very far to go before it gets into the Strathbogies. It will then be almost impossible to put out. I think the weather is expected to be fairly benign this week so that should help.

Boho South is one of my favourite bush running areas.

Swim 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla pool, followed by a walk around Jublilee Golf Course, in the foothills of the Warbys, dragging a golf buggy.

Walk (Street O) 58:00 [3] 5.74 km (10:06 / km)
(injured)

Lilydale. I walked a little more briskly than earlier this week but it will be some time before l can run. As usual l fell in a hole and of course it was with my bad leg - except this time it wasn't painful so l guess the bruised bone bit is getting better. It was a lovely evening for a post event BBQ at Lillydale lake although the strong smell of windborne smoke had a few people a little disconcerted.

Pool running 25:00 [3]
(injured)

Pool running at Nunawading. Due to some personal development in recent times, l didn't need any flotation, as l seemed to stay afloat regardless. Only 25 mins worth as l didn't want to overdo it.

I then headed off to Traralgon for the funeral of my firefighting friend who died in Tasmania. It was huge, with nearly 1000 people including the Premier and dignitories from 3 states. Everyone from DSE, Parks Victoria and CFA was there, so l knew about 700 of them. The eulogies were very funny as the man was a monkey (always and continuously). That is how he would have wanted to be remembered.

Walk 1:10:00 [2] 6.0 km (11:40 / km)
(injured)

Slow amble around Blackburn. First venture out since l had my knee done, other than a few walks around the sales at Chadstone; which is so large that a shopping trip almost counts as training.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

I couldn't sleep at all last night and had a headache - but apparently both are side effects of cortisine. I'm hopeful that this treatment will work but there is a high likelihood of recurrance. At least l can now work on rehabilitating the underlying injury. I stepped down my front steps this morning pain free, for the first time in ages, which was great. I'm now off to Benalla for a long weekend

Note
(injured)

Knee has been aspirated and injected with cortisone. It was no big deal and as soon as l stood up and started walking it felt as though it was aligned and tracking properly. It hasn't felt like this in years! I now have to keep it in a compression bandage and take it easy for a few days - advice l think l'll follow in order to get my life back :)

Walk 1:00:00 [2] 5.47 km (10:58 / km)
(injured)

Slow walk around street-O at Nunawading talking to Andrew Baker, who is injured also. He had never heard of a Baker's cyst, even though it is his namesake.

I visited the doctor today and am scheduled to have an ultrasound guided aspiration and cortisone injection tomorrow. Hopefully that will settle my knee and allow me to rehabilitate the other knee injuries.

Walk 1:05:00 [3] 6.5 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Another walk around tbe Blackburn lake and creeklands following a warm day. I started back at work today but they clearly were not expecting me. My door pass, my access to the DOJ drive and my email had all ceased to function over the Christmas break. It took until 11am to get everything working again.

Walk 1:10:00 [3] 7.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Just another walk around Blackburn lake and creeklands. l forgot to mention yesterday that l saw several dead ringtail possums on the ground - it appeared that they had just fallen out of the trees due to the heat.

Walk 1:07:00 [2] 6.7 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Walk around Blackburn. My bakers cyst has flared up again and is causing discomfort. I am considering whether this is lymph related and am cuttting back on salt, sugar and coffee to see if this helps.

Swim 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla indoor pool. It is quite a warm day and I got a bit sunburnt in the outdoor pool yesterday - so opted for indoors today. Both pools were fairly crowded by country standards - but there was still no need to share a lane!

You know you are in the country when......
1. You come out of the pool and there is a flyer on the car for 'bulls, broncos, barrels and babes' (I think they might need to review their target audience)....and
2. You see a motorised wheelchair in the middle of the road doing a right hand turn (complete with hand signals)...

Swim 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)
(injured)

Happy New Year everyone (a day late, I know). My New Year's resolution for this year is to lose weight! I seem to have stacked on a bit since I injured my knee - and my similarity to the PM is now more than just the hairdo. Nothing seems to quite fit around the middle and rear end, and there is a lot to cart up the hills orienteering.

I really enjoyed the 5-days of orienteering and also hope to do a bit less work and have a few more holidays this year.

Yesterday I dragged a golf buggy around the Strathbogie golf course as Peter's caddie. It is a lovely course for running and there was only one other party there - but my knee was too sore to run and it was also too hot.

Today I swam in the Benalla outdoor pool, which was lovely on a summer's afternoon, and my knee feels remarkably better after a few back stretches - which possibly indicates the ailment is partly a back problem.
