Walk 1:30:00 [2] 9.0 km (10:00 / km)

A long brisk walk around the hills of Heathmont. I would certainly be fit if I stayed here and ran. Cleaning up and sorting out process at both Blackburn and Heathmont are going well and there is some sort of light at the end of the tunnel.

I have finally started to come back to life after my lurgy. It took 5 weeks out of my life but seemed nothing more than an infection. I had a number of tests for infectious diseases (glandual fever etc) and oddly the tests showed, unbeknown to me, I had had them all before, but not this time! I have also been busy with house/s and sorting stuff out over the past few weeks. I'm also trying to juggle 3 jobs at the moment - partly with the department and partly with the new fire commissioner - so am pretty busy! Any energy I might have had has been expended elsewhere.

Anyway, I went to street-O in Glen Iris last night and walked around with Ian who cracked the whip to make sure I walked as fast as I could. It was a nice area and nice course.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

I went to the doc again and got a third dose of antibiotics - 10 days worth this time - and had some blood tests. I just can't shake off this lurgy. It is mainly sore throat and ears and a choking feeling. I have committed myself to going to work next week so here's hoping. I will be so unfit by the time I start training again :(

(sick) (rest day)

This really is the sickest I have been for many years. I have finished my double course of antibiotics but have been left with breathing difficulties, no voice (which pleases some people) and an intermitent cough - as well as no energy to speak of. However I feel better in myself. Work wont have me because I still sound sick - so have started working at home (Benalla). I think that I will give myself a bit more recovery time before starting any sort of program again.

(sick) (rest day)

I really do have 'man-flu' this time. It was coming on for a week and now I've had it for 2 weeks. I'm onto my second course of antibiotics and hopefully they will work. It is beautiful weather in the NE and I'm glad I am here.

I had a long trip home from Qld on Friday - flying Jetstar and avoiding the Qantas shemozzle - although not quite. My plane arrived on time and we were just about to board - when they announced (at 8.30pm) there was to be a routine engineering inspection of the plane. This took an hour and a half and we didn't board until 10.00pm. On arrival at Melbourne the door wouldn't open for 45 minutes and, when it did, we were issued with the instruction 'look down as you step out'......I arrived home at 3.00am.

That would have been OK except that my ears didn't 'pop' on the plane descent and I was now in extreme pain - and nothing I could do would make them pop. I made it home and dosed up with panadol to try and shake the pain. They popped by the morning and I finally conceded defeat and went to the doctor - the verdict an infected throat and ears and a double course of antibiotics - with instructions to take it easy including several days off work.

To make matters worse - while I had the blocked ears - it poured with rain and the rain flowed straight out of the gutters at Heathmont, into my living room and straight into the TV (yes, the new one - which is already on its second life) - pouring out the bottom! A number of books were also reduced to soggy wet clumps. Oh misery!

Needless to say I felt lousy all weekend. Holidays are supposed to revive you but mine seems to have done the opposite. On Monday night I drove back to Benalla to get some warm dry (i.e. not humid) weather and a sense of normality. Good news is that knee does not hurt at the moment and the TV still works after drying out.
