Walk 58:00 [3] 5.7 km (10:11 / km)
(injured)

Street O at Bundoora. It was the Phil Poulton memorial event on a map he won an award for in 2006. It comprised 4 satellite collections of controls. My knee was still quite sore from Tuesday so l just ambled.
I am still basking in the glory of my win in the super veteran ladies walking category in the street O champs on Tuesday. The opposition all want to know which way l went. I attribute my win to choosing a really good course ( l couldn't really improve on it) and navigating cleanly.

Tuesday Feb 25, 2014 #

Walk 1:02:00 [3] 6.74 km (9:12 / km)
(injured)

Street O walking championships at Kensington. I thought l had better actually try. I got caught up in the vortex at the first control so purposely missed the next one to separate me from the competition, all of whom walked faster than me. This strategy worked and l got a break in the section with lots of intricate laneways, which required a bit more navigation.l collected tbe missing control on the way back - in peace. Don't know the result but may have done OK. Knee didn't like the fast walking.

Run 53:00 [3] 7.3 km (7:16 / km)
(injured)

Run at Reef Hills with Peter running 2m in front, trying to drag me along. My knee didn't hurt at all. But Peter's did. I must have given it to him!!

Swim 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla pool. I did 125 m backstroke that felt good as it used different muscles. I might try and do more of this in the future - but l wouldn't want to do it in the open sea or l would go around in circles
I've qualified for the street O champs next Tues without even trying. I don't know whether to be pleased or embarrassed - l've qualified for the super veteran walking class! I won't win, as everyone walks faster than me - unless l adopt the Len/Ron style of walking!

Walk 53:00 [2] 5.3 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Street O at Dandenong Creek in light rain. This was the area where my Heathmont house was and the course went right past, so l got a good look. The area is really nice with lovely houses and trees and l was a bit sorry I'm not still there. The course also took me to a new aeea that was nice.
This is my birthweek (no more days) and l am making the most of it!

Walk 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

A bit lacking in energy at the moment. Must be getting old. Another walk around Blackburn.

Sunday Feb 16, 2014 #

Walk 1:10:00 [2] 7.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

I had a big social weekend and was quite tired so opted for another walk. The weekend included a trip to Ocean Grove for a party on Sat night and a drive home - got home at 1pm. I was planning on staying and camping, but it was raining and the drive home was more appealing.

Saturday Feb 15, 2014 #

Walk 58:00 [2] 5.9 km (9:50 / km)
(injured)

I was pleased the street O training event was on the Ruffey Creek map from last Thursday's event, which I didn't go to, because I really like the park area. I planned on jogging but it was quite hot and humid and the jogging didn't happen. Knee was also tender on the hard surfaces in the shoes I wore, so walking was the best option.

Wednesday Feb 12, 2014 #

Walk 1:05:00 [2] 6.5 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Street O in Camberwell. I walked and knee felt good tonight - probably due to wearing the correct shoes. I also volunteered to collect controls, which was a shame, as an administrative error caused them to have been collected already!
The exciting family news (in the Age) is that my sister did a Bradbury yesterday - she was appointed vice chair of DJs after all the others resigned in disgrace after insider trading. Hopefully this means some new discounted clothes for me!

Walk 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Another event in Blackburn that l couldn't avoid - Geoff's scout O. The usual places, the usual amble....

Monday Feb 10, 2014 #

Swim 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla pool. Knee was a bit wonky but improved as time went on. I planned to stay an extra day in Benalla, which was a good thing as the Hume Highway was blocked last night due to fires. There are still are few fires between here and Melbourne, but they shouldn't be too much of a problem when I return this evening as the wind has dropped.

The excitement of the weekend was the result of Peter running over a 1m red bellied black snake. He couldn't see it on the road afterwards and thought it had slipped away. But not so. After nearly a full day, it fell out of the car into the gutter in the middle of town when he went in to do some shopping. Luckily for us, and unluckily for it, it was dead.

Sunday Feb 9, 2014 #

8 AM

Run 33:23 [3] 4.7 km (7:06 / km)
(injured)

Yes, two consecutive runs around the Benalla lake! It was a hot night, but not as hot inland as it would have been in Melbourne, and today is to be a scorcher, so I headed out earlier. My knee was a bit sore to begin with but settled about halfway round. The earlier start meant I wasn't as hot today as yesterday at the finish - possibly also I was cooler because I was slower. So slow, that I was passed by a man and his daughter, who looked about 5 years old.

Saturday Feb 8, 2014 #

9 AM

Run 32:54 [3] 4.75 km (6:56 / km)
(injured)

Run around Lake Benalla in the heat. And PHEW, was it hot! I felt much as I did after the Duo last Sunday at the finish, and then drank 5 glasses of chilled water. Followed this with a trip to the Violet Town market, with thousands of other people. This market is getting more popular each month and is full of quaint and alternative wares. I was tempted to buy some hippy clothes to chill out but bought homemade spring roles instead.

Walk 59:30 [2] 6.25 km (9:31 / km)
(injured)

No excuses tonight as Street O started about 200m from my house. l just walked as knee is still tender - but l am OK with that, as l am just glad to be doing something . There was a huge crowd as school orienteering has started and because tonight was a qualifier for the street O championships. They were about 20 maps short. More or less the usual walk around Blackburn.

Tuesday Feb 4, 2014 #

Walk 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Walk around Blackburn. Knee is a bit tender after Sunday. It wasn't helped by tripping in a hole after the event finished.
I learnt something today - two small red chillis in my lunchtime salad are at least one too many! FIRE!

Sunday Feb 2, 2014 #

Run/cycle 2:19:00 [4] 19.96 km (6:58 / km)
(injured)

Silva Duo at Warburton. 3 km footO, 9 k MTBO and 2 k footO. As usual the runs were fairly easy and the ride really tough (l walked up most of the hills, but was not alone).I managed to finish so was pleased. Even more pleased to be neck and neck with Louise up until the last changeover (perhaps that poison in the dinner worked after all), after which l melted and she didn't. Car said 40 degrees at the finish. Came back to life after a dip in the cold river and a woodfired pizza. Thanks Steer family and DROC for a good event.

Note

Sorry. That was 'poisson'

Saturday Feb 1, 2014 #

Walk 1:10:00 [2] 7.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

After sleeping in until 9 (a very rare occurrence) l walked around Blackburn as it was too hot for anything else. Am feeling good for tomorrow, despite the anticipated heat. The fire control centre tells me l am still likely to die tomorrow, but if so it will be from heat rather than wood firing.
