WOC Tour Sprint. Ran H21E. I ran hard and pushed the pace as much as I could.
Leaving I couldn't figure out where I was going, re the start kite/first control. Switched on finally and got into, hitting 1, 2 and 3 hard. I was pushing and saw the alley into 4 but I though it was someones yard, so ran past it, saw the junction, screamed oh fuck and did an about turn. On route to 5 I decided to take the climb early and plan ahead. Coming up to the control I felt as if the boulder was very close to the road. Shock me a little bit but recovered quickly and attacked 6 and 7. Coming into and leaving 6 I got abuse flung at me from the fort from the Irish on top. I had the fastest split to 7 taking as straight a line as possible. 8 was a matter of following the track, pretty straight forward. Leaving 8 I was a little panicy as I didn't see the road as soon as I expected. On the road and it was straight forward. 10 was just pick and go. Running up the hill to 11 my legs were beginning to feel the burn. Slow to 12 and leaving it I wasn't in control. Couldn't figure out what was happening and messed it up. Dropped 15sec. 14 was straight forward. 15 was simply turning in after the cliff on the nice sheep track. I saw the route through the fort to 16 straight away. I reckon it was the only real route to that control. Got more abuse in the fort, almost took a spill coming down the hill into the control.
17, 18 straight forward. At this moment I was flat out. My HR had max'd out. I was running along the track and didn't see the building or field and panic'd completely. I couldn't work out the tracks and back tracked. Realised what I did when I was half way up the hill and just committed. Approaching the building I didn't see the control or read my descpt so I assumed it was at the far corner, which it wasn't. Damage limitation into the finish trying in vain to get back a few precious seconds.
I have to be happy with my orienteering in the beginning and when I was pushing. Bit dissappointed with the muck up at the end but thats what happens when your on the edge. Really fun - freggin love sprints!!

day 1 WOC tour. happy with how i was running. i felf good almost all the way. i got a mad suprise when i picked up the map and it was 1:10000! it was actually quite nice terrain and i really enjoyed it apart from a mistake at 4, after i powered up the hill and was tired. the last bit in the green was quite tough to finish off in too.
