Kinda poor week with illness and busyness. Jukola was mixed but I'm pretty tired after it anyway. This week may be similar, but without illness. Plan not fully formed yet as there is a big thing that takes higher priority then training coming up. Conor and Seamus here for most of the week so hopefully they'll take some of the organising and shopping etc. stress away.

To Röbo with Conor and Gina. Shortest route. When we got there played a round of the northern discgolf course. Bit of fun.

Running (road) 21:28 intensity: (1:19 @0) + (20:09 @1) 3.61 km (5:57 / km) +25m 5:45 / km

Home, via the hill and a loop past Tunacolonin because it's nice. Very pleasant evening.

Running (off-road) warm up/down 31:39 intensity: (11:49 @0) + (16:03 @1) + (2:55 @2) + (52 @3) 4.17 km (7:35 / km) +2m 7:34 / km

Jogging about. Met Conor for the only time all weekend. Aware that last year I undercooked the warm up, I was at risk of overdoing it this year. I was much smarter about working out when Victor would be back on 6th leg, converting the time behind into real time based on when the leading 6th leg finished so I was able to plan everything much better. That helped. Had bought the last two gels at Jukola so that gave me some confidence too.

Orienteering race 1:50:35 intensity: (1 @0) + (1:19 @1) + (1:25 @2) + (14:42 @3) + (1:27:29 @4) + (5:39 @5) **** 17.77 km (6:13 / km) +115m 6:02 / km

Jukola 2018 - Team 179

Physically happy. Raced strongly and fought against the other guys I was running with. I wasn't willing to let any of them get away so when I was 3rd in the group and the front guy made a break, I went around 2nd and closed the gap. Much better approach and really happy about that. My body was able to respond to the small changes in pace and didn't just completely die if I went into the red for a few seconds like it has done in the past. Good signs.

On the other side lost about 8 minutes with mistakes. The two big ones were due to not dealing with the situtation I found myself in. No. 1 I got a fly in my eye. Needed to stop and deal with that rather than trying to run and fix it while not being really able to read the map. ~2 mins. No. 24 I got stressed about the finish and the guy who had passed me with my little miss on 23. Worried about trying to close a gap I couldn't see and missed seeing the first road (even though I used it to relocate on 23...). When I missed it I took forever to work out where I was and threw away like 4 minutes. Not happy about that.
A few other small misses in circles that I'm not too worried about, though would be nice to cut out. 14/25 is a bad spiked fraction. On reflection the way to do that is to actually do race analysis after I run. Haven't done much this season and it's the only way to learn really I think.

Went training with Lucas to get some feel for the terrain. Nice stuff, going to be proper quick. Around is valid for safe orienteering but straight executed well will probably be quicker.

Woo a run. Nose still blocked but feeling much better. Needed to get out and made sure there was time for it. Went to Stabby with Gina and moved the legs. Felt better for it for sure.

Note
(sick)

This week did not go great. Still feeling a bit weird with a temperature and headache today. On the pills. Had to meet the wedding photographer in the evening anyway and do a load of shopping so training time was always going to be at a premium. It didn't happen. Did squeeze in buying about 60 bottles of wine and something like 150 cans of beer though.

Note
(sick)

Supposed to go to Jukola meeting today but left work at lunch to go home sick. Headache and temperature so home and slept for the afternoon. Didn't seem wise to train when I still felt crap in the afternoon.
