Orienteering race 39:52 [4] 6.87 km (5:48 / km) +357m 4:36 / km
ahr:171 max:181 shoes: Jalas FLX

Note: I havent uploaded to map anywhere since it's really bad and the GPS tracks pretty much dont correspond to where i went. Seamus went out... Conor was standing in the first start box... about a minute and a half after seamus conor went for the start box. Screw starting order. Colm, myself and Niall E. dart to the start box. I miss picking up my map. turn around to pick it up but Colm is standing on it while he picks up his so i wait for him to run off and then take it and flake it off down the track after Colm and Conor with Niall right behind me.

Conor cut into the forest early, foolishly i would say, then Colm a bit later then me and niall even later, we all could see the exact tree it was on and it was full speed. Conor punched, colm punched... but he didnt, the box came off in his hand so he ran away punching it! "come back here with that" I shouted at him, he dropped it on the ground so i punched it while handing it back to niall who was standing at the control. Then me and niall took off after Conor and Colm. Conor headed straight for the green and left me thinking "eejit". I ran up the road, gaining time on Colm and Niall who went through the forest. I cut in then and spiked number 2 in first place.

There was a huge unmarked ride heading straight towards 3, so i took that. Ran past the crags with green and I see Seamus standing looking very confused beside the knoll I was sure the control would be on. "hmmm somethings not right here..." I let up off the gas a bit and started to look around. I could hear the boys bashing through the forest slow as well. NO sign of the control anywhere. We all grind to a stop... I glanced at my map... its not on the right knoll. "where the hell is it?" I look around, everyone is looking at everyone else, colm darts in one direction, everyone looks to see if he can see it... nothing. The Niall went for it back in the direstion we had come from, a moment while I triangulates his path and bam I see it. punch right behind Niall thinking "well, shea will be pissed"

Hit the road to 4. No sign of colm cause he took some silly route. Shea breezed past me but then was slow into the control. I saw him over to the left, someone else to the right and thought to myself "its straight, isnt it", and then proceeded to fall over the cliff it was at the bottom of, and take the lead again.

5 was boring, adn after that nothing really hugely interesting happened until number 18, where at this point Colm & Shea had dropped me and I had dropped Niall and Conor. Colm & Shea ran into a load of thorns for some reason. Shea got really lost and then I just ran up behind colm as he beat a way into the control. Then he was a real prick as we hit the track to 19 cause he just teased me and then ran really fast and dropped me and I just continued to suffer along and eventually came into the finish 50 seconds down on colm with no sign of anyone else behind us

Kayaking 13:12 [2] 1.5 km (8:48 / km) +12m 8:27 / km
ahr:142 max:155

Today my family decided to do one of these ROAR races. a kayak, a cycle and a run. we kayaked across the lake from just by my house to Russelstown. I knew Ruth had a much better technique than me and would drop me handy so i tried to just stay in her wake. (apparently its called wash hanging...) then she did something fancy and I passed her out only for her to crash into the back of my boat and spin me around. by the time I was right again she was gone. Don was driving the car around the lake with the bikes but we beat him across so we waited for him to arrive for a minute or two.

after we had put the kayaks in the boot of the car since don couldnt actually get out of the car park if they were on the roof we staggered the start of the cycle in the intervals we had finished the kayak. Ruth went off first, me 50 seconds behind and conor another 50 behind me. I, being as large as I am, was unable to wear my shoes in the kayak and thus lost time to Ruth in the changeover. dunno what happened Conor but he didnt really gain time on me so my plan of us working together to catch and drop Ruth (she didnt have to do the run because she is injured and cant run) didnt look like it was going to happen. I got on my bike and took it handy for the first minute or so, looked behind and I was getting away from Conor so I decided he wouldnt be much use, so I opened the gas, down the N81 passed poulaphouca and caught and passed Ruth without even a fight when we turned left and right to take us to Hollywood but not along the main road. I kept gunning it, felt tired up the hil through hollywood forest and could have done with someone there to keeo me going but I kept pushing and hit the changeover to the run with no sign of Ruth or Conor anywhere

ran from the top of Lugnagroagh to the top of hollywood hill. felt weird running after cycling. Conor was just after the forest when I met him when he was on his way up, and I down. He said Ruth was wel gone

hit the last bike section hard, knew I had to do a lot to catch up with Ruth. Your HR drops a lot on downhills... Turns out I made about 10mins on Ruth on the bike section in total but her not having to do the run easily made up for that

went for a run. tok it nice and handy. up to the mast around the track and back down the steep bit. the track at the top has really become overgrown. ruth and conor must not have been doing that much training this spring

Commuting 5:28 [2]

warm up before the hill race. felt a little sluggish but did some strides with niall mc a and felt a bit better

Running (road) race 56:19 [3] 10.38 km (5:26 / km) +430m 4:30 / km
ahr:155 max:179 shoes: Jalas FLX

went out at a fair pace but it was ok. kept going but i could feel my body was a bit tired, i kept pushing thinking it wasnt going to be that long and bam hit the open about 2k in and died. felt like i as going to puke for the whole rest of the race. took it really handy on the decent and finished and found it quite a struggle to stand. very nearly got sick all over the shop but some advice on breathing from some nice lady at the finish saved everyone that.
