Mournes Day 2.
Crappy sleep in the tent but 10 hours lying down meant I was rested enough. We were a bit pressed for time before the start but made it fine. Punching start so hung back to the back of the group.
We got the map drawn in quick enough and decided to take a chance and take the long way round the track. Figured it would suit Kev better than the up and over through terrain. So we flaked it off. Had to stop for a minute or two for Kev to duct tape a compeed on. When we got near the control I was scanning the mountains for signs of other teams but saw nothing. I assumed the worst but when we got to the control I saw it hadn't been turned on which meant we were first there... or maybe the controls were set to turn off after like 15 mins and they were well gone...
Plodded on and the guy manning the 2nd control said we were first to come through. Sweet! Headed up the hill out of two and we saw two teams approaching, pretty close. The last couple of hundred metres up to 2 was pretty bad going though so we knew they were at least 5-6 mins behind.

Got onto the track as quick as we could and hammered on. Then the cluster through some of the worst terrain you can get. Took a different route to R+E and saw them coming into our last one which was their 3rd, so still no time gained by them. Over to 7 then up the hill to 8. Kev was starting to get a bit tired again but the terrain was ok. We were on the way to 9 when they came over the ridge to 8 so still the same gap. Hammer hammer hammer over to the next 2. Steep hill down then to 11, I was worried we'd lose some time. I got stuck in some gorse but Kev found a better route around it.

Heading down the hill I felt something funny on my right foot. Looked down and saw my heel sticking out the side...
Made the descent annoying. The shoe was still on but very loose. My toes mashed into the front of the shoe every step. It was ok the going up to 12 but going across to the last cluster the hole got bigger and bigger until my whole foot was sticking out the side. Eventually just took it off and carried it.

Ended up a bit low for the first one and we weren't sure where to look for it lost a good bit of time. Found it eventually... just as R+E did. Screamed at Kev to hurry up. I had to wait at the control before I could punch and then It was down hill again. I had no hope keeping with them singly shod; step, slip, step, slip. Being behind though we could run faster and map read less. The control appeared and then it was a run across a gorsey sheep track . Step spike step spike step spike.... Then I saw what the last descent would be like: steep with a generous helping of scree. I had to stop and reshoe. Shouted at Kev to keep going. Stop, sit, untie... all while roar and eoin are getting away... foot in, retie. It would have to do. Through the ferns and over to the forest, then straight down. Rocks in shoe. Ow. Keep going. R+E disappeared onto the track. Keep hurtling down the hill, barely in control and just hoping that the shoe wouldn't make a weird angle and break my ankle or something. Catch back up with Kev near the last control. Runnnn down the track. Shoe flopping all over the place so I rip it off. How far is it? Can they make 9 mins? Ruunn. Last down hill. Step slip step slip. Can see R+E sitting at the finish. Kev gets there first but I have the SI.
3 mins down...
So still a win over all.

Mournes Day 1, B class with Kev.
Took what turned out to be the better route choice for the first wee cluster taking the low one first. It was further but I meant less climb and the climb we did do was all on tracks.
Little miss on the 5th, there were what appeared to be other tracks. Once we hit the right one though it was obvious enough. The rest was straight forward enough. Me and Kev were the same speed on tracks and hills but I was a good bit stronger through the terrain and down the hills. I ended up waiting at most of the later controls for him to catch up.
Ended up ~9mins ahead of Roar and Eoin at the end so all good.
