O in Weald Park.
Not the worst area and decently shaped course, but the controls tended to be on or very close to paths. Good routechoice practice I suppose.
Felt a bit crap but nice day and nice running.

Orienteering race 59:56 [4] 12.26 km (4:53 / km) +4m 4:53 / km

SLOW Street-O Score thing around Fulham. Nice to get some quick running in.
Biggest mistake was not having a torch, hard to see the map.
Made it back with like 4 secs to spare.

Note
(rest day)

Post race recovery was not great and I'm paying for it now, pretty stiff calves and quads.
Late evening flight back to London

Run (grass/off-road) race 3:24:09 [2] 20.32 km (10:03 / km) +924m 8:11 / km

Mourne Mountain Marathon, Day 2

Route
Clusters were 3 + 4 and 7 +8

I've never had any kind of even halfway ok sleep at one of these, and this was no exception. I guess even lying awake for 10hrs give you some rest anyway, and curry for breakfast is the way to go.

We started late in the window as it was quite nice to be running through people the whole time. We knew we had a big lead so we took it a bit handier as well. Had a bit of a silly mistake to the first where we just missed the control and started heading off up the river. I think all our routes were good then, expect we got a bit stuck in the rocks on the side of Chimney Rock when we were heading to Donard, we should have cut down a bit sooner to avoid them. Had a nice wee picnic on the side of Donard and then the last few were tidy to the finish.

Easier going today and nice to get the win.

From a cursory look at some splits we didn't seem to be moving much slower than the Elites, will be interesting to do a more in depth comparison.

My pack was a bit heavy really, will have to get a lighter tent and sleeping bag for the future. Happy food wise though, I wasn't too hungry and didn't have much left over at the end.

Run (grass/off-road) race 4:06:10 [2] 21.45 km (11:29 / km) +1917m 7:56 / km

Mourne Mountain Marathon, Day 1

Route
Clusters were 3 + 4 and 9 +10

Had planned to do the Elite class with Kev, he had to drop out with an injury so, after some frantic messaging trying to find a new partner, Conall saved the day. Decided to drop down a class to the B so as not to kill the lad and I think it was the right thing really. As it turned out he was well able for it and we came in with a 50 min lead.

Found it pretty physical, the climb we did was similar to the Elites but condensed into 10km less distance.
Nav wise we were good apart from maybe taking the first cluster in the wrong order and a small slip on the second last one in the big quarry.

Toddle around Ballyward just to get a bit of time on a map.
Was ok but not really nice orienteering, the mapped veg didn't seem to mean much and there was a lot of high ferns in the more open bits.

Cycle 1:31:01 [1] 11.66 km (7:48 / km) +469m 6:30 / km

Nice chill MTB up and down Scarr, ridiculous winds meant we had to turn back before the top though.
Bit of a long trek up with bits of pushing but a really nice descent.
