WOC Selection Long
Happy enough with this but definitely room for improvement. 1st Irish so automatic selection. I had been thinking that I didn't really want to do WOC Long but I enjoyed this more than expected so I'll be happy to give it a go.

Was a bit worried that whatever was going on with the body in the middle would still be around. I stuck to a more conservative breakfast of several jam sandwiches and seemed to be alright.

Got 1 nice enough apart from missing the indistinct track, but a few mistakes on 2, 3, and 4 mostly due to poor compass work. For 2 I had a bad direction out of the control and then for some reason I thought I was in a marsh way off to the left and corrected by going right. I was the semi open and just ran to it. A simple check of the compass would have fixed it.
Not sure what happened at 3, it would be nice to have the GPS track... Ended up going down the wrong spur, which better compassing would have fixed.

Olle Kärner caught 3 mins at 3. I was a bit annoyed and worried about my nav so played it safe and took the track to 4, I'd say straight was faster. Executed the route to 4 really nicely but missed it badly in the circle. Again shoddy compass work and not being careful coming into the green from the open. Kärner made the same mistake and found it quicker, so was handy to have him around. It was nice running with him, neither of us was directly following the other but we were working together a bit. All good routes and only two small slips up to 11. Didn't like the look of the big marsh before 6 and went for the narrow but, but Kärner went straight and gained time. Small miss in the circle at 8 as well.

Roar appeared at 11 and we all headed out to the road. I think a well executed straight route would have been better but I didn't really feel like I had the confidence to get it right. I pulled away from the two of them and got to 12 a bit ahead. I had the other loop to them then and the rest of the course was more or less solo.

I was a bit dumb on 13 and started doing the loop backwards and headed to 14 (I had the two the south first). Copped it quick enough but I was a bit hesitant then. Could have gone straighter to 16 as well but it was alright.

Track to 19, track to 21. Didn't trust the big auld marsh and the legs were getting heavy by 21 so track to 22 as well. The marsh or up to the forest on the right would have been better I think.

So generally kinda alright from 4 onward anyway. Need to check the compass a bit more and have more confidence to go straight. From legs like 1, 5, 6 and 7 I know can do it but I guess I get lazy as well. I lasted much better before bonking a bit than at the JK, and there's still time to get some nice long runs in as well.
