Missioning 8:30:00 [1] 29.0 km (17:35 / km) +1800m 13:25 / km

Day trip in the Tararuas with Mum. From Holdsworth rd end, along the motorway-like path up the valley to Atiwhakatu. Where the track suddenly changes to single overgrown track. Up Baldy Spur and out on to the tops just in time for the cloud to start blowing over the Ridgeline. Had lunch on the top before negotiating Broken Axe Pinnacles, where I took an involuntary slide back down the slope on the snow grass. Up McGregor for stunning views of cloud, before heading down to Jumbo. Killed my knees coming down the rain gauge track. And then the long drag back out to the car park.
Very happy to be able to do this stuff again :D But need a fair wee while to recover now.

A mix of hill ints with the o-gang.

WU and WD at Taita. Found a fig tree. Unfortunately not ripe.

Orienteering 17:52 [4] 2.55 km (7:00 / km) +90m 5:57 / km

Evening Sprint event around Taita cemetery. Not sure how comfortable I am about racing around a cemetery, but have to admit I did have a lot of fun.
Steep course with plenty of map reading. Made two massive mistakes, one when I got confused as by what was an open area on the map, but more graves on the ground. By the time I figured things out and reoriented myself, I ran straight to #13, not 12. Oops. Didn't even get 12 cleanly once I figured it out either.
Lost another minute and a half cutting through some green to #16. Cutting through wasn't the problem, but a combination of the scale and my direction meant I missed the control by a long long way. Got my direction wrong when correcting the mistake too, so ended up doing 4x the necessary distance on the leg overall.
Probably need to get a SH thumb compass aye.

But most important, nice to do a sprint again :)

Went back out and did the short course, which had none of the same legs. Much better, 2 small mistakes.

Took the break in the weather to get up Kaukau. Cloud from bottom to top and back again. Bumped into Greg toward the end so added another small loop to the bottom of the climb again (refused to go up a 2nd time!).
