South Deefield and Whately. Low 50s, very light SW breeze, cloudy. Put in a good effort. A little chilly at times, but I think that's better than being too warm.

Hatfield and Whately. Low 50s, NW 10 mph, bright sunshine, beautiful. A decent effort, especially after I turned and headed back north.

Thought I was going to pass on today, but the weather cleared up in mid-afternoon, and so why not take advantage of what decent days are left in the year.

Upper 50s, NW 10-15+, dressed a little too warm again. Mostly flat, but the wind made it interesting.

Passed 3,000 miles for the year, counting both bikes. More than I'd expected, but then alternative forms of exercise are not many, so you take advantage of what's possible. 3,500 will be difficult....

Warmer today, about 60F, gentle S breeze, probably had a bit too much on and was sweating quite a bit, even though the pace was certainly not ambitious. Up to Turner's Falls to have a look at a couple of the prime waterfowl spots. Lots of geese around, but not (yet) much else of interest.

Dead legs for the first 15 minutes, then not so bad. Worked a little harder the last 15 minutes.

Past Stillwater Bridge and down to Whately. The plan was to go the Upper/Lower Road loop. I'd heard that Stillwater was closed, but somehow my mind concluded that the bridge in question was the one further up the Deerfield River, Bardswell Ferry.

So quite the surprise when I got there. But easy to adjust to a different route, whereas if I'd come there at the end of a loop, approaching from the north, it would have been a very unwelcome surprise, adding 8 miles or so. Of course then I just would have hauled my bike past the Jersey barriers and walked across. (They're repairing the abutments, not the surface, and everyone was already gone for the day.)

Beautiful late afternoon, 51F, S10mph.

Leverett loop, counter-clockwise.

At one point I passed a youngish guy who was running. He had on shorts and a t-shirt. I had on 3.5 shirts, 1.5 pants, warm gloves, and a balaclava. I'm guessing he was warmer than I was.
