road running race 20:11 [5] 5.0 km (4:02 / km) vdot: 49.3
weight:139lbs shoes: Air Max Trail

5K race in Enfield, CT, not quite flat but no hill more than 20 feet climb. Good effort, happy with time, right about what I was shooting for. Splits -- 6:34, 6:31, 6:34, 32. Haven't raced much in the last few years and I have to relearn what pace/effort I can sustain. With a mile or so to go I was wondering if I was going to fade, then finished with perhaps a little too much left in the tank. Hard to know for sure. And I forgot my heart monitor, so no data other than perceptions.

Nice day, upper 30s, ran in shorts.

Warm-up at a decent pace, timed it about right, finished with about 5 minutes to go to the start.

Cool-down, went down by the Conn. River, lots of geese and ducks.

trail running 1:00:36 [3]
weight:139lbs shoes: Air Max Trail

Seems like the usual hour on the trails with another storm starting up. But footing was better than a couple of days ago and the legs felt ok. Only about 10 more days and spring is here.

Wonder how much snow will still be on the ground for the Billygoat....

road running 47:22 [4] 6.2 mi (7:38 / mi)
weight:139lbs shoes: Air Max Trail

Intervals on Falls Road, 8 x 90 seconds, 45-50 seconds recovery, same as a couple of weeks ago, another cold morning, about 20. Nice place to do them, very gently rolling and no traffic, but I miss getting the precise numbers you get at the track. Left quad still sore from falling a couple of days ago, but it's ok when I'm warmed up.

trail running 1:03:40 [3]
weight:139lbs shoes: Air Max Trail

Cold (upper teens) and very windy, but a nice run on the trails nevertheless. Managed to go for an hour with only 5 minutes of that into the wind. Most of the time I was on the lee side of the ridge, calm and beautiful, though I could hear the wind howling up on top. Caught some wind going through one saddle where there was a good bit of drifting, on the way back 30 minutes later my tracks had already vanished.

The running was what is becoming the norm -- a few inches of new snow over an uneven base. Just plain hard work at times.

Treated myself to a hot bowl of soup afterwards. Delicious.

trail running 1:01:04 [3]
weight:139lbs shoes: Air Max Trail

Trails on Greenfield ridge, start of a snowstorm, an inch or two down so far. Conditions were not too bad, a bit of slop, a bit soft, a bit pretty decent. It seems to be better when we get rain changing to snow, as this storm is, than the opposite.

Took one fall, just a little one, feet out from under me on a sidehill, landed on the outside of my left quad, where there just happened to be a sharp rock sticking up through the snow. Got a good bruise, will probably be sore for a few days and take my mind off any other aches....

trail running 51:09 [3]
weight:140.5lbs shoes: Air Max Trail

Foot trails on Greenfield ridge. Pretty warm out (upper 40s) so the trails were soft and a bit slippery, and slush in places. Would have been better in the morning when it was cooler. Just another day running in the snow (going to DVOA-land last weekend didn't escape it). I hope Cincinnati in April has bare ground, though if it still has snow, I guess I'll be ready for it!

Legs a little sore, not too bad.
