biking - red bike 49:39 intensity: (47 @1) + (17:51 @2) + (30:46 @3) + (15 @4) 12.11 mi (4:06 / mi) +218ft 4:02 / mi
ahr:131 max:152 weight:144lbs

Upper 30s, N 0-5 mph. Wasn't really into it, but not a good enough excuse not to go out. Wet roads, a little light rain. The weather continues to be pretty unsatisfying, but I guess that makes the nice day even nicer. Supposed to be 60 on Tuesday.

biking - red bike 43:52 intensity: (50 @1) + (12:28 @2) + (30:34 @3) 11.12 mi (3:57 / mi) +74ft 3:55 / mi
ahr:131 max:147 weight:143.5lbs

Low 30s, S 5-10. Out early before things got wet.

Though not as early as planned, bike had a totally flat rear tire when I went to head off. Hmmm. Figured I'd have to take it to the bike shop because I didn't have a tube, but after a bit I remembered I'd been carrying a spare tube in my saddle bag all the time. Thirty minutes later the change was done. Took a while because I was trying to find if what had caused the flat was still in the tire, but no sign of anything. Also took a while figuring out how the rear wheel goes off and then on, and also took a while because I'm slow. At least I was in a warm basement.

I need to stop by the shop anyway. Have to get a new tube, plus maybe time for new tires? They've been about 3,500 miles.

And as far as getting wet was concerned, despite how the radar looks now, there has not yet been any precipitation in any form --

ahr:132 max:154 weight:143.5lbs

35F, NW 15 mph, sunny. At least it was sunny, I suppose, but still not real pleasant even though I was well bundled up. But supposed to be wet for good parts of the next few days, so out I went. :-)

biking - red bike 1:42:10 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (33:52 @2) + (1:06:50 @3) + (28 @4) 26.19 mi (3:54 / mi) +200ft 3:52 / mi
ahr:131 max:153 weight:142.5lbs

Low 50s, NW 5. Nice day, and tomorrow is supposed to be cold and windy, so figured I'd best get a little more in today. Down the east side of the river to Northampton, back the west side. Good steady/hard effort the last 9 miles into a bit of wind. Into the wind seems a little easier without the puffy jacket on!

Earlier, Gail and I went to the funeral for J-J's mom. Charlie/Rhonda, Aims Coney, and Gary Gallagher also there from the O' community. A proper Catholic funeral mass, then a nice gathering afterwards. Marion was a fine person. The same can be said for the whole family. Very glad we went.

biking - red bike 1:30:08 intensity: (51 @1) + (1:15:25 @2) + (13:52 @3) 21.45 mi (4:12 / mi) +608ft 4:06 / mi
ahr:123 max:142 weight:144lbs

Upper 40s, N 5-10 mph, nice day with lots of sun. Headed north first this time, easy pace. Still finding the wind aggravating. I guess such things don't bother you if you are feeling strong and positive...

Sunday Mar 19, 2017 #

10 AM

biking - red bike 45:47 intensity: (55 @1) + (35:40 @2) + (9:12 @3) 11.15 mi (4:06 / mi) +67ft 4:05 / mi
ahr:122 max:145 weight:143.5lbs

Upper 30s, N 10-15 mph. Legs were very tired after yesterday (even took a short nap late afternoon, first in quite a while), so today was meant to be an easy pace and it was. Not hard to do the first half, wind at my back. The route on the way back goes through more woods and has some shelter from the wind, and I was about two gears lower, so still managed to not work very hard.

But it still seems that headwinds in winter are annoying, and getting more so. Fortunately spring arrives in a couple of days.

ahr:128 max:150 weight:144lbs

40, wind variable and pretty light, though it seems it still had the ability to piss me off at times...

To Tuners Falls and back.

biking - red bike 54:03 intensity: (48 @1) + (10:01 @2) + (34:17 @3) + (8:42 @4) + (15 @5) 13.62 mi (3:58 / mi) +404ft 3:52 / mi
ahr:140 max:161 weight:143lbs

40, NW 5-10 mph, sunny. Nice late afternoon, roads mostly dry. Glad, as is usually the case in such things, that I got out and did it.

biking - red bike 29:22 intensity: (5:14 @2) + (23:56 @3) + (12 @4) 6.92 mi (4:15 / mi) +51ft 4:13 / mi
ahr:137 max:151 weight:144.5lbs

Short ride on River Road in Deerfield, there because it had bare pavement. 25F, NW 10, really annoying (and cold) a couple of times.

23 items today, remembered the helmut but only one pair of socks. Could have used two pair, but one pair was already soaking wet from tromping around in the snow earlier, and I was too lazy to go upstairs and get another.

biking - red bike 1:22:05 intensity: (37 @1) + (2:44 @2) + (1:13:52 @3) + (4:51 @4) + (1 @5) 20.3 mi (4:03 / mi) +555ft 3:56 / mi
ahr:140 max:161 weight:144lbs

35F, S 5 mph and variable. Reasonably pleasant out, certainly more so in mid-afternoon than it would be in the morning (temps were about 20 mid-morning).

A little bit longer today because I'm not expecting to get out tomorrow, a foot to a foot and a half of snow perhaps.

Sunday Mar 12, 2017 #

biking - red bike 44:58 intensity: (19 @1) + (1:32 @2) + (30:44 @3) + (11:31 @4) + (52 @5) 10.91 mi (4:07 / mi) +320ft 4:01 / mi
ahr:145 max:163 weight:144lbs

25F, W 15 mph. Not so bad, picked a better route as far as the wind was concerned, only was annoying for a mile or two.

I intended to be wearing/carrying 24 items of gear, actually remembered 23 of them...

biking - red bike 50:05 intensity: (17 @1) + (6:25 @2) + (41:26 @3) + (1:46 @4) + (11 @5) 12.15 mi (4:07 / mi) +261ft 4:02 / mi
ahr:138 max:162 weight:144lbs

Got up, there was no snow and no wind, so it seemed like I ought to get out while things were favorable. 30F. Up along the river and back, not unpleasant, no traffic, snow flurries the last 10 minutes but the road was still dry. Glad I did it.

biking - red bike 45:55 intensity: (4:40 @1) + (5:20 @2) + (32:49 @3) + (3:06 @4) 11.14 mi (4:07 / mi) +63ft 4:06 / mi
ahr:131 max:154 weight:143.5lbs

45F, W 20-30. Bleh. But it is supposed to just get windier as the day goes on, and then winter is returning for a while, so figured best to do something. Pretty much zero energy. I don't think early outings suit me.

Out in the open on the way south, was sure if at some point I was going to be separated into echelons. The way back was more protected and much more variable. But still not a whole lot of fun.

Wednesday Mar 8, 2017 #

4 PM

biking - red bike 1:04:14 intensity: (52 @1) + (35:28 @2) + (27:54 @3) 15.31 mi (4:12 / mi) +687ft 4:01 / mi
ahr:127 max:150 weight:143lbs

Low 50s, mostly sunny, W about 15, but swirling and one of those days it seemed in my face more often than not....

An easy effort, but the wind (and the ups) made it less pleasant than I had hoped. Though I did get a new record for the loop.

Tuesday Mar 7, 2017 #

9 AM

biking - red bike 44:00 intensity: (49 @1) + (7:59 @2) + (35:12 @3) 11.13 mi (3:57 / mi) +87ft 3:56 / mi
ahr:134 max:149 weight:143lbs

40F, S very light, damp, rain coming. Made it back just in time. Roads were wet, but not enough to leave a sandy wet streak up your back. :-)

Monday Mar 6, 2017 #

2 PM

biking - red bike 1:43:13 intensity: (14:09 @1) + (46:42 @2) + (40:50 @3) + (1:32 @4) 25.06 mi (4:07 / mi) +426ft 4:03 / mi
ahr:122 max:156 weight:144lbs

Low 40s, S 5 mph, overcast. Up to Turners Falls and back, a little longer than I've been doing, but the first half was gentle. A little chilly at times, thought I had enough on but maybe not.

Thursday Mar 2, 2017 #

7 AM

biking - red bike 43:05 intensity: (38 @1) + (18:15 @2) + (23:53 @3) + (19 @4) 10.51 mi (4:06 / mi) +249ft 4:01 / mi
ahr:131 max:152 weight:142.5lbs

40F, W20-25 in general, direction and speed was really variable. Went out early since it's supposed to get colder and windier as the day goes on, and so far only small branches were coming down.

Low energy, it seemed.

And glad I got out when I did, since it is now snowing....

9 AM

biking - red bike 50:17 intensity: (46 @1) + (22:12 @2) + (25:22 @3) + (1:52 @4) + (5 @5) 12.79 mi (3:56 / mi) +398ft 3:49 / mi
ahr:131 max:161 weight:142.5lbs

low 50s, S 10-15 mph. Didn't really feel like going out, but rain is coming so it seemed now or never. Roads were wet but not enough to throw a spray.

When it's windy there is always a choice of suffer now or suffer later. Chose the latter, headed north. The last few miles were less fun.
