road running race 21:23 [4] 3.1 mi (6:54 / mi) vdot: 45.9
weight:138lbs shoes: Air Max Trail 12/06
5K race in Forest Park in Spring, one of a number of times over the years I've run a race that I wasn't prepared for just to see how bad my conditioning was. Almost a minute slower than last year at this time. Just confirms that work needs to be done. Martula got me by a couple of seconds, Clint was maybe 30 secods ahead, George and Lyn about a minute behind. Also just a few seconds ahead of Roland Cormier (age 66 now), good runner, occasional orienteer many years ago. The primary reason for doing these races is for the training, but there's a nice social component too.
Mid 40s, drizzle, decent running conditions, no distractions from nature. Well, there were potential distractions, we went right by the duck pond, but if yu're focused you don't notice anything.
road running 34:42 [3]
Warm-up (14:26), and then enough warm-down (20:16, part on the XC course) to keep the ramp intact, 56:05 for the day.
Note
2006 was a year when some people seemed unnaturally concerned about their weight, all started when Mr. Swampfox discovered the G. It is still too early to tell if the G has brought more good or evil -- measured by such criteria as self-esteem soaring or plummeting, relationships formed or destroyed, training ramped up or suspended altogether -- but it is clear that more time was spent on the scales.
Which therefore raises the question -- just who is this fine specimin, almost entirely at one with nature? And who took the photo?
