Orienteering 33:37 intensity: (15 @0) + (4 @1) + (7 @2) + (5:13 @3) + (27:58 @4) 4.15 km (8:06 / km) +122m 7:04 / km

Oceania Middle. Onewhero (The Rockery). M50. 2nd.

Completely different sort of terrain from Woodhill, but lots of fun. Steep, rocky outcrops and rock pillars, and a mix of open and forest. 1:7500 map, and even then quite tricky to work out whether the terrain would be going up or down.

Al C-W did 30, but I was happy with a fairly clean 33 without pushing too hard.

Oceania Relay. M45-54.

In a composite team with JonX, but unfortunately we couldn't get Quentin as well (he'd already been added to a different team). Anyway, Britain was leading the M45/M50 race after I finished in 2nd (behind Carsten J) and Jon brought us up to 1st.

Really nice runable forest with somewhat vague/shallow contour features. Some pampass grass, but not enough to affect visibility much, or runnability at all. Apparently the WMOC final is on the adjacent area, so that will be something to look forward to next weekend.

Ran first leg, and started with all the M35/40/45/50/55/60 teams. After losing 45 secs in the mad rush to find the right #1, I got it together and caught Al C-W at #4. Carsten had by then disappeared off the front. Slight miss at #5 but found it without losing too much time (45 secs?) , and then ran the rest of the course on my own. Finished 2nd, ahead of a pack about a minute behind me. Could have run slightly faster had it mattered more, or had I had someone to race against. But the lesson for WMOC is that finding controls cleanly is more important than running hard.

JonX also 32, Bill 29, Carsten 28.

Oceania Long, Rototoa. M50. 2nd.

Quite tricky technically, made harder by the "cutty grass" (pampass grass) that reduced visibility and made the going a bit harder. Missed #2 and #4 by a couple of minutes each, and then took more care and did a bit better. Still scrappy towards the end though, making a handful of 30 secs mistakes either by poor routes or looking at incorrect flags.

Still managed 2nd though, thanks to others (apart from Bill) making more mistakes.

Oceania Sprint, UNITEC Carrington campus. M50. 1st.

Much more tricky than I expected, but I was sufficiently careful and only lost a few seconds through hesitations. Slippery underfoot because of the heavy shower during my run.
