Orienteering race 30:55 [3] 3.66 km (8:26 / km) +92m 7:30 / km

JK Day 2 Brereton Spurs. M50. Rtd.

Despite still having a cold, I decided to start the race and see how it went.

Started badly, having been quite surprised to see the start officials allow MarkC to start just 30secs in front of me (I thought he was on M50L, but in fact he was on M50S). Consequently blew #1 completely.

Got my head sorted for #2 and #3, but then realised I had no strength in my legs for the steep climbs, and my head wasn't thinking at all well either. By #6 I decided it was a bad idea to continue, and jogged back. I'll skip the Long race and try to be fit and ready for the relays.

JK Sprint. MOD Stafford. M50. 9th.

Still not got rid of my cold, so physically struggling, but technically pretty good. Happy to be within a minute of the leader in the circumstances.

ahr:163 max:172

Macclesfield Urban. MVet. 8km. 4th.

I was full of cold. I skipped the JOK Sprint in order to try and race this one, but I was sluggish and not properly focused.

Also not impressed with bits of the map, and some of the planning. Some of the gaps were so narrow that they were basically invisible, and where these also had steps, the steps become a solid black line and appeared to show the way as blocked. At least one control description (wall fence junction) could be approached from both sides, but with no way of knowing which was correct. I picked the wrong side, and lost 35 seconds because of that.

Karl's time of 61 was fast. Even fully fit, I might have struggled to match that.

Skiing 20:00 [3] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

Ecclesall Woods playing fields.

Lots of snow but it was quite sticky. Took the power kite again for some kite-skiing but the wind was too strong and gusting. It was only just possible to stay on my feet with the kite, so trying to ski with it would have been foolish/dangerous.

ahr:161 max:174

UKOL Middle Race, Irchester. M50, 2nd.

A unique area, with more earthbanks than I've ever seen on any map. Actaully quite a good area for a middle race.

Just a couple of hesitations but that was enough to let Alistair win by a few seconds.

Interland Long Distance. Herperduin. 6.7km.

Tired from two runs yesterday, but a reasonably good technical run, just slower than Quentin and Clive (especially on the long legs).

Interland Middle race.

Some people just used it as training. I raced it at 3/4 pace. Quite an intricate area and good fun.

Running 8:25 intensity: (34 @0) + (3:28 @1) + (3:53 @2) + (30 @3) 1.21 km (6:58 / km) +2m 6:54 / km

ahr:165 max:174

Interland Night Sprint.

Mostly in the forest rather than the cabins. Quite tricky to find the shallow re-entrants on the thick trees at night. Lost a minute at both 8 and 9. Ok otherwise.

Running 6:05 intensity: (33 @0) + (3:06 @1) + (1:27 @2) + (59 @3) 0.87 km (6:58 / km)
