Chesterfield Urban (Holmebrook Valley Park). Mens Vets. 7.3km. 1st.

Quite an intricate housing area around a fairly simple park with a stream. Got quite caught up in brambles while crossing the stream on one leg - probably should have run round. Apart from that, good technically, and just about fast enough to beat Paul M by a few seconds.

CompassSport Cup Final, Virtuous Lady, Dartmoor. Blue. 3rd.

Didn't feel like I was running especially fast, and was struggling with making progress on the very muddy/slippery steep slopes. Technically reasonably good, though I lost 30 secs on #1 just working out which crag was which.

Was very surprised when I came through the spectator control and was announced as being a few seconds in the lead on the course (though that was Blue "Cup" - I was several minutes behind Quentin on Blue "Trophy"). Steady last loop to ensure I didn't lose time on some intricate controls. And I paused a few seconds catching my breath before attempting to win the golden boot run in trophy. (Murray Strain won it a second faster than me and a few others).

About 40 seconds slower than Bill, but 4 minutes slower than Quentin competing in the Trophy match. At least I beat Clive and Jon, and therefore did my bit to help SYO in the Cup. We finished 3rd, FVO 2nd, BOK 1st.

British Middle Distance Champs, Wendover Woods. M50. 5.1km, 170m. 6th.

Lost a few seconds at each of a few early controls, but then caught Jon just before #18 and proceeded to miss it. Another minute lost before I worked it out, by which time Dave P (with Jon H) had caught me. We three carried on mostly together to the finish.

A 5th and a 6th for the weekend, which isn't bad, but not as good as I'd hoped for.
